We are two young farmers passionate about raising ducks and spreading the love of farmstead foods.

We're Khaiti and Andrew French, small scale farmers in Wisconsin. This was our first year farming full-time on the land that we purchased last fall. We call our farm "Living the Dream," because that is what we are doing. We want to share our experiences with others so they know it is possible to live your dream.
LTD Farm is known for our GLORIOUS Duck Eggs! Duck eggs are a delicious superfood that have more fat and nutrition then regular chicken eggs. Some people who are allergic to chicken eggs can eat duck eggs. They are also very decadent and creamy, as well as being a renewable and sustainable source of protein and Omega-3s. Our heritage-breed Khaki Campbell ducks eat certified organic feed, and during the day they live outside in the fresh air and sunshine, not in a stuffy dark barn. It is important to us to provide them with a good life, so they can lay the best eggs ever. We want them to live like real happy ducks and have a excellent social life in their flock.
About our project
We currently cannot keep up with the demand for our Duck Eggs! We sell out nearly each week and we'd love to supply all the duck eggs our local market asks for. Right now, we keep a flock of about 200 ducks. It makes sense for us to strive to meet our Duck Egg demand in order to survive financially as small scale farmers. In order to achieve this we need to expand our farm infrastructure to create a new habitat for a whole new flock of ducks next spring. This involves siting and building a new hoophouse for their homebase and night shelter, setting up new rotational grazing paddocks with electrified net fence to keep them safe from predators, and establishing a large garden of greens for the ducks to eat. We will also need to purchase day-old ducklings and care and feed them for nearly 6 months before they begin to lay eggs. This all takes significant funds up front that we don't have. We're cash poor but energy rich farmers!
We're Kickstarting instead of going to the government to get a loan.. We would rather work with our friends, family and supporters to raise the funds, and in return we will share the bounty from our farm with YOU! If we do not reach our Kickstarter goal, we won't get any of the pledge money- we have to make it 100%, or it won't happen. Please help us spread the word!!
We focus on sustainable farming methods and utilize permaculture principles. Our goal is to create a farm where we foster the entire circle of life: our fruits and vegetables, animals and soils, perennial crops and trees, and our customers all working together to nourish each-other.
Farming is a challenge and a blessing, each and every day. We are filled with pride over our animals, our farm products, and the work we have accomplished in our first year here. We approach all of our work with care, integrity, and respect. If we nourish the earth, the earth will nourish us.
Thank you so much for anything you can contribute, we really really appreciate it! Your support will help us grow our farm business to a sustainable level, and we in part will be able to serve our local region with sustainably produced farm goods and services. We think linking our customers to the food they eat, and the farm where their food is raised, is one of the most important jobs on the planet.
All of our farm goodies are only redeemable to those who live in the Twin Cities and West-Central Wisconsin Area. Since they are mostly perishable items we will establish a drop site for you to pick them up. Our CSA boxes are dropped at the Seward Co-op in Minneapolis, so this will be our primary site. If you do not live in the area but STILL want to support our project (Thank You!), you can donate your pledge gifts to a local person of your choosing, or leave it up to us to choose.
