What is The Rad Underground?
The Rad Underground will be an internet talk-showcase filmed in front of a live audience. Hosted by Rad Hayes with co-host Michael Adcock, every episode will feature a comedian, a musical act, and another type of special guest. The show will feature the traditional interview and performance format, but will provide more time for the performers to showcase their talents. Every comedian will get a 10 minute set, and the musical artists will play 30 minutes at the live filming, which will be trimmed down to around 10 minutes for the standard web release of the episode.
Each episode will be filmed in 720p with multiple cameras, along with high quality audio recording to ensure professional quality. We'll be filming every other weekend starting in February 2012, with the web releases coming out one week after they're filmed. Season 1 will run through the end of July 2012, and will consist of 13 episodes. We'll be filming in Park Place Events Centre https://www.facebook.com/pages/Park-Place-Events-Centre/143632372363478 which is an awesome venue with plenty of space and a great lighting rig we'll be using for the concert portion of the show. It's also available for rent whenever we aren't there, so if you're in the area you should check it out!
What is the goal of The Rad Underground?
The goal of The Rad Underground is to help as many different artists of as many different styles as possible gain exposure for their art without having to sacrifice creative control of their work. We'll accomplish this through a few different methods. Every show will feature 3 artists showcasing their art and discussing it in an interview. During the tapings there will be periodic breaks like most shows use for commercial breaks, during which we will play music by different musical artists. In the web releases of the episodes we will play videos from other creators during those breaks. Since we'll have 5-6 breaks an episode, that will add up to 65-78 breaks to fill with others' music and videos. Add that together with the 3 featured artists every episode and that's a potential 195 different artists we'll be able to gain exposure for in the 13 episodes of Season 1. By involving this many different artists with the show, we'll hopefully be creating a community of artists that support each other and share each other's work, helping to gain exposure for all the artists involved.
Who can be on the show?
Every episode will feature a comedian, musical act, and other special artist. We will be combing all different genres for these guests. The special guests could be anyone, as long as they are doing something to creatively express themselves that they want to share with others. Some examples include: Amateur filmmakers/video creators, artists, photographers, dancers, podcast hosts, jugglers, hula hoopers, chefs, pretty much anything!
Where's the money going?
The money you donate to The Rad Underground through Kickstarter will be used in many different facets of the show. We'll be using it to buy the equipment we still need for the show like microphones and other audio equipment, and lighting for the interview portion of the show. We'll also be using the money to pay for the video editing software we need, set pieces for the stage, some merchandise to offer at the tapings, and rental fees for the venue.
In addition, some of the money will be used to pay the cast, crew, and artists who come on the show. While we won't be able to pay much, we want to at least be able to put some gas in people's tanks.
We'll be running 4 contests at the same time as the Kickstarter project. They will be for a Theme Song, a Logo, T-shirt designs, and the Most Unique Talent(See below for specific contest rules). All 4 contests will begin 12/19/2011 at 12:00PM CST and accept submissions through 1/15/2012 11:59PM CST. All submissions should be sent to Submissions@TheRadUnderground.com with which contest you're entering in the subject line. You're allowed to submit to multiple contests, but please send a separate email for each entry. You may also submit multiple entries to a single contest, but only one of those entries can move on to the audience vote. On 1/17/2012 we'll post our top ten favorite submissions for each category online for an audience vote. Voting will last for ten(10) days and end on 1/27/2012 at 11:59 CST, contest winners will be announced the following day. Contest winners will receive credit for their work whenever it is used, as well as earn a guest spot on The Rad Underground
The Rad Underground Theme Song Contest Rules
- Song must be original material(no covers)
- Song should have a main section lasting about one(1) minute long(song itself can be longer than one minute)
- Song can have lyrics, but an instrumental version should be sent along with it as well
The Rad Underground Logo Contest Rules
- Should not be an established logo/symbol for another company/group/product
- Design must be simple enough to be made into a stencil
- Design can be in color (3 max), but a black and white image must be submitted as well
- Design should be a Vector image(Preferred but not required)
The Rad Underground T-shirt Design Contest Rules
- Design should not contain the established logo/symbol/name of any other company/group/product
- The words "The Rad Underground" should be included in the design
- Design should be Vector image(Preferred but not required)
The Rad Underground Most Unique Talent Contest Rules
- Email should include a brief description of yourself and your talent, and how you first got involved with it.
- Should also include a video/pictures of your talent being showcased

The episodes will generally be filmed/released on Fridays, but could occasionally be on Saturdays
We're still working on finding the best seating arrangement, so the number of seats isn't locked down yet, but should be at least 200
