About this project
"The dog woke me up, snarling and starving. Magic always made him hungry."
Small Town Witch is a noir with a fantasy twist. Set in a 1920's New York where Prohibition outlaws the brewing of spells, the story follows Vincent Byrde, a hard-boiled PI who struggles with a magic curse. After a long career hunting magic bootleggers, Vincent has become obsessed with the frustrating case of Jimmy Wonder: a young, up-and-coming spellrunner who keeps slipping out of the hands of the law. Their dance takes a complicated turn when Kitty Lovelace -- well-known to be Jimmy's main girl -- walks out on Wonder and into Vincent's life.
Aimed at adult audiences, and (like any good noir story) contains violence, nudity and sexual content.
In development since 2012, Small Town Witch has become a densely illustrated pilot short-story. Born out of the simple want to create a world featuring a name like 'Katharine Lovelace,' the story is intended as a deconstruction of the pulp detective genre, and a love-letter to flapper girls of the roaring 20's.
FUNDING AND STRETCH GOALS
This kickstarter's aim is to earn the funding necessary to produce the book. We aim to put the book into production beginning of April 2014 and have a fulfilment service mail the book to our buyers in May 2014. We aim to have copies available for purchase at TCAF 2014 (May 10-11).
LITTLE FOOLERY consists primarily of the partnership between Alex "Muun" Singer (writing) and Jayd "Chira" Ait-Kaci (artwork). Together, they produce stories of a magical nature. Little Foolery is best known for their webcomic, Sfeer Theory.
Small Town Witch will be produced with the additional help of Jennifer Doyle (colors), Airiana Maher (typography, design, layout), and Fawn Lau (design, layout, editor).
