About this project
Hi, thank you for spending a bit of time to find out about the SnapClip. A revolution in the way in which you use your bicycle accessories. Using the power of rare earth magnets this, no tool solution is quick and easy to install and just as easy to remove or switch between your bikes.
Along with a suite of add on accessories including the cup holder, the light holder and the repair kit holder the SnapClip is designed to work in a variety of combinations.
SnapClip is all about making your cycling experience smoother, easier and a little bit more fun. We are very proud of our Birmingham roots and have found a great, experienced team to help us with production.
SnapClip has been created to give you a greater level of flexibility with your bicycle products. Current products are designed and built in silo with little consideration for how they work together, and the way these accessories attach to the bike is seen as an afterthought. We want to bring a bit of fun and colour in to this part of the cycling market and with your help we will be able to start a new revolution for bicycle accessories. And we want you to come along for the ride.
We hope you enjoyed the video and have been impressed with the SnapClip. We really think it could help make every cyclists life a little bit better.
For £6 you will recieve a bucket full of gratitude from us at 366. and a hand written thank you note featuring the Birmingham skyline illustration by Rebecca J Kaye which you can see above.
At each SnapClip pledge level you will get your choice of colour from black, green, blue, orange and pink. If there are other colours you would prefer let us know and if enough people agree we will try and release more colours.
For £15 you can get your hands on one of the first SnapClips to be made and one accessory of your choice.
Pledge £20 and you will receive the SnapClip and two accessories.
Pledge £24 and you get the whole bundle, a SnapClip and each of the cup holder, light holder and repair kit holder in the colour way of your choice.
A pledge of £30 will get you the whole bundle plus an additional SnapClip.
For £100 you will get the chance to take part in a bicycle tour of Birmingham taking in some of the sights and sounds of our home city and a chance to see where the SnapClip will be produced. You will also get a full set of accessories and two SnapClips in your colour choice. And we'll even throw in lunch as well.
Development, Production and Fulfilment
The SnapClip has been worked on over the last year and has grown from the beginning of an idea and a rough prototype cooked up in the kitchen to the pre-production prototype you see in the video.
We have selected a manufacturing and fulfilment partner who have many years experience in plastic injection moulding and work for some very high end automotive and medical companies.
The next step once the Kickstarter campaign has ended is to start work on creating the injecting moulding tools which will be the longest process in the manufacturing stage. Once these have been agreed a test production can be run before the final production run and assembly. The assembly stage is kept simple and quick by using as few as parts as possible, we have a team of dedicated friends and family ready to help out with this stage. Finally orders will be packed and shipped to backers and we intend to have them in your hands by the end of May 2014.
Once we have reached our goal I pledge to issue weekly updates with our progress to ensure you’re always kept up to speed.
Thanks to Little Bad Wolf for creating the awesome video you see above, to PROVIDE for letting us use their stylish bike, Marc Silk for his vocal skills and to all the friendly people that let us film them.
Risks and challenges
As with all manufacturing projects there is a risk that timescales will slip or test models will not function first time. This is why we have built in a reasonable turn around time from funding to delivery. The prototypes so far have allowed us to play with a variety of different compounds and this will mean there is less testing to do once the production tools are made.
By keeping manufacturing close by we can easily pop round and check on the progress of the project and make sure problems are dealt with swiftly.
The only element which will need to be imported from outside Europe is the magnets which are no longer manufactured in large quantities in Europe. (If you know anyone who does make them in Europe please let us know) We have a number of suppliers lined up for this element in case the original supplier falls through.
I pledge to update all followers on a weekly basis with the current progress of the project and if that gets boring maybe a video of a sneezing panda.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
