I am Maureen Bowie, I am an artist who is about to venture into the unknown to an Artist-in-Residence at a rustic dune shack on the outermost tip of the Cape Cod National Seashore! I hope you will help me reach my goal.
My primary goal in applying for an artist residency was not only to challenge myself but also to further develope my artistic skills. Going away especially to a place unfamiliar gives me the ability to focus and to solely consume myself in a painting without interruption. This residency at the Margo-Gelb shack will have no electricity, no running water, no plumbing, no neighbors or internet which in turn will allow me to put my entire self, mind and soul into my work and create art as it should be.
I have been painting and creating art since childhood. My work includes vast subject matter as well as a diverse use of mediums. Producing murals, wall finshes, decorative and architectural art, as well as fine art have been avenues I've traveled. I enjoy experimenting with other materials such as wood, glass, metals, and clay always keeping and emphasis on new approaches. I strive relentlessly to pursue my creative undertakings while managing to meet many challenges.
This is my first opportunity to do a residency and present a public program and exhibit in America's oldest artist colony, Provincetown, Mass. I am honored to have been awarded this residency and truly feel rewarded to work within this artistic community. Therefore I am working very hard from the process of preparing wood panels through exhibition. In order to reach this goal I will need quality professional art materials which are costly. These supplies include a variety of paints, medium, brushes, wood panels, cleaners, resins/sealers, hardware and framing products. Travel, residency fees, and equipment for living "off the grid" will also incur great costs along with promotional materials for advertising.
The people that directly inspire me the most are you. I greatly appreciate your enthusiasm. Your help and support with these expenses would be invaluable. Please consider making my first residency and gallery exhibit a great success. To the right is a list of rewards to express my sincere gratitude for your pledged contributions. Thanks for watching my video.
October 2012, I will be hosting "Art On Tap" featuring my paintings, chronicles, and video from this extraordinary experience. More information will follow, check back for Updates.
Special thanks to my daughter Shannon who made this video possible, to my friend Colleen for suggesting Kickstarter and to all those who have supported and encouraged me in my career!
How the funding works:
To the right are a list of pledges you can make towards the project. For every amount listed there is a reward. You pay now. The money is held by kickstarted until the end of August. If the Goal is reached, I will receive the funds needed, and you will receive the reward paid for. If the Goal is "Not" reached, your money will be reimbursed. Kickstarted is The world's largest funding platform for creative projects and is really a brilliant idea because it allows people to get involved and help with a project by contributing as little or as much as they desire and get something from the artist in return.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
