About

Goody Good is one of the webcomics from Alex Bauman and Brandon Stewart's ComicsAndCognac.com. It's a series of loosely-connected stories in which our leading man does his very best to be a good person, only to yield the very worst for those around him. Although most stories are contained within a single page, there is an ever-expanding population of recurring characters that weave in-and-out of Goody Good's grim, albeit comical saga.

In short, Goody Good is a tragically hilarious chain of unfortunate events that is ready to make the jump from web to comic book form.

The best laid plans might be paved with good intentions, but for Goody Good, they're also littered with bodies.

"A laugh-out-loud tragedy for the whole family." -A Critic

"As much fun as there is blood." -Random Guy

Why is Goody Good so good?

Have you ever done something nice for someone only to have it come back to bite you? Have you ever wondered why you suffer for your niceties? These were the questions being asked at Goody Good's inception. Goody Good is simply because no good deed goes unpunished.

Goody Good is to his very core a great and kind man; he isn't some skull tee shirt wearing vigilante roaming the streets punishing people. The real tragedy of our comic is written on our main character's face every time his kindness turns against those around him.

About the book

Goody Good #1 will collect the first 20 pages created for the series, currently done as a free webcomic. It will be standard comic size (6.625x10.25"), printed all fancy and glossy-like to maximize the vibrancy of gore and tragedy. Goody Good #1 will have an initial print run of 1000.

Up until now, we have been making our comics by hand and selling them at comic conventions around Washington state where we live. In an effort to spread the Goody Good word, we have generated some interest at local comic shops and we feel it's now time to step-up our game and make comics like the big boys.

What your support goes to:

  • The cost of printing.

We will be doing an offset professional print run of 1000 books through printninja.com.

  • A barcode.

Having a barcode might be a simple gesture, but to have one means having the option of wider appeal and potential distribution.

  • Bags and backing.

Comic bags and backing will protect your comic when we ship it to you!

Who would create something like this?!

The short answer? These guys:

Alex and Brandon at their Homecoming Dance 2016 "Rowmance on a Boat"
Alex and Brandon at their Homecoming Dance 2016 "Rowmance on a Boat"

That's Alex on the left and Brandon on the right. We first combined creative efforts in 2001, but we didn't get serious about our collaboration until 2014, when we formalized our union by creating Comics & Cognac, the brand umbrella that covers all of our work together.

Us.

For more than a decade, Brandon Stewart has been a professional artist in Seattle, Washington, working in fields as diverse as illustration, fine art and tattooing. When he is not making comics or watching Star Wars with his son and daughter, he is painting, drawing, or making tattoos.

In 2008 Alex Bauman entered the world of professional writing, contributing to several websites as a freelance journalist. After a lifetime of honing his craft and years of wearing a "features writer/reviewer" title, Alex has moved full force into creative writing. He's developed a mind full of stories and his kids are tired of hearing them. Now it's your turn to read them.

Stretch Goals:

In the event that we can go above and beyond what we're asking, we have more plans:

$3600: Since we already have enough material for issue #2, we might as well go ahead and get that all printed up too, right?

We can also extend the page count of the issues by adding supplemental material like sketches or scripts. We could even add a variant cover to issue #1!

Risks and challenges

This is our first attempt at utilizing Kickstarter for a project, but we've done a lot of research and we feel confident in how to make this run smoothly. First off, our comic is done and on the final stages of being print-ready. All that separates us from going to print is the funds.

If anything happens, print-wise or something unforeseeable, we'll make sure to be up-front and honest about it. We have zero interest in letting all of you awesome supporters down.
