“We did all these things, but no-one saw! No-one saw... except the dinosaur.”
A Dinosaur Day Out is a beautifully illustrated children’s picture book about truth and creativity.
This is the first book that I’ve both written and illustrated... Having previously focused on illustration (I am a published children's illustrator), my love for children’s books tempted me to start writing my own... and so A Dinosaur Day Out became a reality!
The story follows the adventures of a little boy and his dinosaur friend during an autumn day out together. But no-one can quite believe that any of their antics really happened! Is the dinosaur imaginary... or is he telling the same tales of excitement at home too?
The rhyming text is perfect for bedtime stories. At under 200 words and with plenty of new words to explore, it can also be enjoyed by young adventurers learning to read by themselves (with a little help)!
The book will be a 210mm x 210mm paperback with 36 full-colour pages. The story itself spans over 14 spreads (28 pages), which are fully illustrated with lots of detail for everyone to enjoy. The paper is a lovely quality and weight.
I’ve had a test print done in preparation for this campaign, and it looks great!
Firstly, thank you so much for even checking out this page, let alone supporting the book!
I’ve set my target at the lowest possible figure for an initial print run. The funds raised from this campaign will purely cover printing costs and some little bits of housekeeping, like getting an ISBN number.
If the project is successful, once our amazing Kickstarter backers have received their rewards I will be looking to distribute copies to retailers, and will donate copies to local schools and libraries in Warwickshire.
To celebrate World Book Day, I've added an extra little surprise for everyone who chooses to receive any reward. Whatever reward you chose, you will also receive a PDF file with 5 fabulous colouring-in sheets featuring the characters from the book, so you can print them again and again for your budding artists and their friends!
I studied Fine Art at Falmouth College of Arts, graduating in 2007. I’ve recently branched out to become a full time illustrator, leaving my ‘day job’ in August 2018.
Since then, it’s been a whirlwind! As well as writing and illustrating A Dinosaur Day Out, my first illustrated children’s book was published in September 2018 - The Christmas Next Door by T.A. Creaser and Samuel Langley-Swain.
My children’s illustrations are created using gouache paint on paper, which I then scan digitally to create digital pencil drawings and collage.
I’ve recently had my first project funded through Kickstarter to publish a book of film-inspired illustrations for grown-ups, called Art Kino. The project was successfully delivered ahead of schedule and looked amazing. I’m eternally grateful for all the support that went into making the book a reality!
Risks and challenges
There are very few risks to the project. I’ve already completed the full and final text, as well as all illustrations.
I have chosen the printing company that I will use and have purchased a test batch, which looked absolutely fantastic and even better than I could have imagined!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
