The men and women of Homo Climbtastic are allowing me and my crew to document their yearly convention of LGBT rock climbing at West Virgina's new river gorge. They're an amazing group of fun, welcoming people from all over the states and Canada. The documentary will explore how the group was formed and has grown to include over 500 members, how climbing affects one's life, and the bonds created through the group. The intersection of the gay and climbing culture will also be explored. This film is for anyone wondering or interested in climbing, the climbing community, and how diverse and wonderful humanity can be.
The money donated to this kickstarter will be going mostly toward renting the best camera and sound equipment I can to capture the climbing and camaraderie that will be going on around me. A small amount will go toward getting us there, sheltered, and fed.
On a personal note, I was introduced to the group by someone I met at my local climbing gym and who has become a good friend of mine. Even though I'm straight, every interaction I have with Homo Climbtastic is amazing and I've never felt more welcome and comfortable with a group of strangers. Now, the strangers are my friends and I want to share their stories and awesome climbing feats with the world.
