About

What is Amirelia?

Amirelia is a cooperative puzzle solving and exploration game that is based around metaphors for friendship. The challenges presented in Amirelia encourage players to communicate with each other and build a stronger connection both inside and outside of the game world.

The World

The world of Amirelia is a rich, abstract space that is loosely based on the cellular structure found within many plants.

Features

The Bond

The bond between players is our main mechanic, as well our most direct metaphor for friendship. As the players work together, they gain a better understanding of the connection between them, both inside and outside the game.

Dynamic Split Screen

We wanted to make the interface as simple as possible, and this includes the split screen. However, unlike an ordinary split screen, ours serves an additional purpose of helping guide the players back to each other. If the players are ever lost and want to find each other, all they have to do is move towards the split screen line.

We encourage feedback! If you have any thoughts, please feel free to post them here or on the play page itself. We take all feedback seriously, and it has already led us to many of the most important changes we've made so far.

Why do we need funding?

Amirelia was first developed as a capstone project for our master's program in game design and development at Rochester Institute of Technology(RIT). It was the main focus of our schoolwork for the last 10 months. Since we have graduated, we have been fortunate enough to receive some funding from the MAGIC Center at RIT(MAGIC) that will allow us to continue working on Amirelia for the summer. We expect to have an early access version of the game ready by the end of August.

MAGIC has been kind enough to not only fund us for the summer, but also to allow us to publish through their studios when we release the project.

The early access version will include the core experience, but we are looking to build out this experience into a greater, longer journey for players to enjoy together. The experience we have in mind will take longer than the summer to develop to completion, and so we are asking for funding to help us continue working on the game that we are so passionate about. Help us give Amirelia the polish it deserves!

The funding we receive will help us stave off those pesky landlords and bill collectors while we fine tune Amirelia. Any additional funding will be used to further enhance our game! We have a wonderful group of contractors who have created our music and many of our art assets, and some of our additional funding will help support them as well. Developing games is our passion, and so we honestly mean it when we say you have our sincere gratitude for backing our project.

Risks and challenges

If we reach our funding goal, we anticipate encountering the following obstacles:

Art Asset Delays - Throughout the development of Amirelia, we have dealt with our limited access to artistic skills. We know that building art assets takes time, and we have managed to overcome this obstacle by scheduling ample time to make up for our comparatively slow asset development rate. To be certain that we can have the game completed on time, we will allocate additional time in our schedule for asset development in anticipation of unforeseen delays.

Steam Greenlight Process - We intend to release Amirelia on Steam, and we know that the Greenlight process can take longer than expected. We will attempt to avoid this delay by starting the process early and using our marketing campaign to also build momentum on Greenlight. Additionally, the MAGIC Center at RIT has already guided games through the Greenlight process, and they will be guiding us as well.

Business Delays - This is the first game that we'll be publishing, and so we are aware that there may be business/legal processes that need to occur before we can officially release. While we do not have experience in this area, we plan to avoid this obstacle by consulting the business professionals that assist with the program that we are participating in.
