The Shifters have one question for you: have you ever owned a 10-inch record? They seem to tell a story all on their own: muted from the hustle and bustle of the LP, yet slightly more sophisticated than their 7-inch brethren. Even the 10-inch history is fascinating. The first records ever printed were 10-inches, only to have the format phased out in the 50s to near extinction, and revived during the later portion of the 70s as entry-level albums for up-and-coming bands.
When The Shifters decided to go back in the studio for 2012, we wanted to do something different; something with tact and style that would let the listener know they are listening to a completed album, but subtly remind you, our family, friends, fans, and drinking partners, this is our first entry into the vinyl world. Right now, we're in the studio with that 10-inch goal in mind: lay down 7 or 8 tunes in the realms of Rocksteady and Reggae to the best of our ability. Make it count. Make it great. And I think we’re almost there.
However! Recording, mixing, pressing records... These activities require money and lot of dedication. As a working band, we have a little bit of the prior and a ton of the latter. We'll be completed with the recording process by March 5th. The majority of the studio time we've paid for out of our own pocket. Theoretically, we then move on to the pressing phase... Except woah (!!!), there's no way we can incur these plant prices all at once - especially if we print them here in the United States (our intention). Also, take into account record labels (remember those?) are not lining up around the block to put out independent albums these days. The entire project lives and dies by this band.
Here's the skinny: in order to press this album as intended, we are turning to you - the fans! Many of you have expressed interest in Shifters vinyl. It’s almost here. Let’s get across the finish line together. Please, please, please find a Reward listed that fits your needs and income level. No amount is too small because every little bit does count. And if you can’t help out – no big deal. We love you guys and girls no matters what. Promise.
So thanks. Thanks for reading the dribble above and expressing interest. Your participation is humbling. And thanks for being a Shifters fan.... Period.
