About this project
As King of Troy grew increasingly ill he divided roles and influence of his kingdom among princely families. What in his eyes seemed like a guarantee of peace turned out to be a mere illusion. The war of intrigues has started and there is little hope for the King of Troy to lay to rest in peace.
Each player represents one of the warring princely families of Troy, who through intrigues, manipulation, deceit and political pressure tries to amass majority of power in designated areas of Troy. Will your cousins stand by your side in the fight over the throne? Or will they try to slit your throat with the knife you backstabbed them with?
Find out for yourself.
RULEBOOK BETA V.01
The final version will look quite differently in terms of the graphical composition, the number of examples and most importantly language. The final text will be proofreading by nativ speaker.
However, before the end of the action on KS we want to show you the rules in the game. It seems that the action is not successful in spite of our best efforts and unlock the stretchy achieved in Poland.
Another KS action will be started as soon as we have the final version of manual and review in English. Unfortunately, this will need to achieve the basic stretch (yea, those ones who we wanted give you for free), because they not be ready to the first game production deadline.
About the project
Why have we decided to launch the Kickstarter campaign for Achaia now?
This is an excellent opportunity for supporters of recently successful „The Lord of the Ice Garden 2nd edition” Kickstarter campaign to lower shipping costs by supporting the Achaia project and thus receiving both board games in one shipment.
You will surely have questions regarding any available reviews or the board game manual. I’m afraid we won’t be able to answer these due to time constraints and thus the inability to provide you with these during a short Kickstarter campaign. We can only apologize and ask you to trust us.
Achaia is a board game prepared for Essen 2015 and we understand that many of you are unable to attend the show. This is why we give you the opportunity to create with this kickstarter project a collector's edition in english.
We invite you to watch the introduction of the game by our friend Tomasz.
Please be advised that it is reviewing the prototype of the game, in the Polish, and as you can probably guess by now, the game will look a lot nicer in it’s final version. We hope that the first reviews of the game will appear before Essen and the instruction for the game mid summer.
The game has only 3 rounds. At the very beginning each player roll 5 dice but only 3 are used in the first round (in second round players get 4th die, and in third round - 5th die). Dice represents "influence" that player has and are assigned to location. As you can see on the graphic, there are 12 location in the game (but some are available from round 2 or 3). Each location has a dice limit and special ability.
Turn order is as follows. First, players assign available dice to locations (in round 1 they have 3 dice to assign, in round 2 and 3 - only 1 because at this point you cannot move dice placed already on the board). Then, one by one, they can perform one action: play an intrigue card, use character ability (characters are common for all players) or pass. Intrigue cards allow e.g., to re-roll die, move die, change number on a die +/- 1 or 2, take more intrigue cards, get some gold, move domination markers, etc. Characters are more or less similar but usually stronger than intrigue cards (there are different characters in each round). Every time a character ability is used, the cost to use it again increases. Also, you can use cousins cards to cancel actions targeted at you ("normal" cousin) or at other player ("elite" cousin).
Last action, passing, is actually the most interesting one. 2-3 players (depending on number of players in the game) that pass first, must play an event card. Event cards are given to players at the beginning of each turn, and their effects vary a lot: they can influence all or one player, be positive or negative. Moreover, if player passed, each time it is his turn, instead of having a normal action, he gets 2 gold. Thus, the sooner you pass, the more money you get. Other players can play as long as they have actions, but at the same time they allow you to earn more. I must say that money is crucial to perform some actions.
When all players pass, each location is check and player who has higher sum on his dice "dominate" this location (he gets VP and place his domination marker on this location). Each player present in this location might use its special ability. Then, the next round begins.
At the end of round 3, extra VP are given to players who have most domination markers on each location. Additionally players get 1 VP per 10 gold possessed at the end of the game. Player who has the most VP wins.
The rules above are more or less everything you need to know to start playing Achaja. As you can see, game is quite easy to learn. However, there is quite a lot of negotiation and negative interaction (but you cannot "kill" anything). The game is very tactical. It is all about area control. Dice management is only a side mechanics.
RULES: What each of the area tiles do.
Once the Achaia Kickstarter has finished we will work our socks off to complete all the stretch goals and Advanced Level Pledge designs. Once they are complete we will open a Pledge Manager.
Based on past experience (of us and others), we will be charging shipping after the Kickstarter concludes based on the actual costs incurred to ship. We will collect this via our pledge manager after the campaign ends. This is so we can be fair to all our backers (shipping is rarely one size fits all).
Transport costs for backers who backed The Lord of the Ice Garden 2ED. While buying Achaia the cost will be as per table below:

Risks and challenges
The game has already been through a successful 1st edition print run on Kickstarter, so we are confident we can deliver the game on schedule with the highest quality components possible. There are no expected delays at this time and we plan to send the game into manufacturing in July-August with a December 2015 delivery date. We believe in being 100% open, honest, and transparent with our backers and will keep them up to date, informed, and we are ready, willing, and excited to communicate and answer questions.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
