Go ahead and pre-order!!
The Lizardz are a 5 piece rock band hailing from the central Wisconsin area. We have been together in some form for 25 years. About 3 three years ago we made a decision to pull away from performing covers to writing, recording and producing original music. I was able to purchase a small commercial space and on a wing and a prayer, we started recording our stuff!
We have 14 tracks total for just under an hour of music. The songs range from straight ahead rock to Philly soul to arena rock to N'awlins boogie woogie. We even throw in an alt country tune to boot...
For Blue Oyster Cult fans, we can officially announce the involvement of Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser, founding member of BOC and creator of such hits as "Don't Fear the Reaper", "I'm Burning for You", and "Godzilla". Buck has recorded guitar tracks and has mixed our songs "Back From Milwaukee"and "Eyeblinder". This is only the sixth outside project Buck has done and we are honored to have his incredible talent on our album! Ritchie Castellano, guitar player for BOC shreds on a guitar solo on one of the songs, and we are also getting great feedback (no pun intended...) from other members of the band, both past and present. The album also features other special guests from our area in several background vocal parts and a killer country fiddle thrown in because, well, we had to.
April 9 brought Jamie Bruhn, our bass player and myself (keyboards) to none other than Abbey Road Studios in London and we had two tracks mastered by engineer Alex Wharton on their legendary analog custom EMI TG12410 mastering equipment. We quickly realized we needed to somehow get the rest of the album mastered there as well. To give justice to the other songs, so to speak. And with Buck and Ritchie appearing on the album as well, we really needed to give these tracks the professional treatment!
Which brings us to Kickstarter. This expense and the vinyl production are just out of reach for our band as we are all working stiffs, most of us have families, jobs, mortgages and such to tend to. In order for us to reach this dream we have nurtured for 2 1/2 years, we humbly ask for your help in funding our project. In return, we can offer you our merchandise and music as rewards! We have been in contact with Alex at Abbey Road and he is indicating an early June mastering window, so things are ready and moving quickly.
Risks and challenges
When we get our tracks back from Abbey Road Studios, the online downloads will be virtually immediate. CD production will be handled by either a local shop that produced a Christmas album a few years back or companies like DiscMakers or CDBaby, so that should go smoothly as well.
Our biggest challenge is to find a good vinyl pressing facility that can deliver a product with a quality cover, label and pressing for a reasonable cost. We are looking at plants in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Nashville. We have never done a vinyl project before, so there are some unknowns to educate ourselves on. We would love advice from someone out there in the know on vinyl production!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
