Our Story Unzipped:
From a young age, I have been passionate about creating something different. From projects in school to various social engagements, it has been my goal to do just as my brand says - reinvent ordinary. Chasing this passion eventually led me to Zippa T - my chance to create my very own work of art through fashion and design. Zippa T, for me, is not just any old shirt. It is a dream come to life.
The product was first designed in the Spring of 2011. Upon an overwhelmingly postive response from my surrounding community, I decided to move forward with perfecting my design. It took a year of meticulous work, but that's the biggest part of it - I wanted my customers, namely YOU, to hold something in their hands that I could truly be proud of... the BEST I could possibly produce.
So that is what you have before you. It has been a roller coaster of a ride saying NO to low quality and YES to local producers. Relinquishing these things simply has never been an option for me, because this project is so much more than a shirt with a zipper. It has been my work of art - created to inspire and uplift others to also be and do something different with their lives from the moment they get dressed in the morning.
This journey hasn't come without risk. After chasing the corporate structure for 7 months following graduation, I decided to go full-time with Zippa T in order to truly make my dream a reality. And now, Spring of 2013, you have in front of you that passion, come to fruition. It is my hope that this design will allow you to be YOU - a one-of-a-kind individual with a unique mark to leave on the world around you.
Where You Come In:
The final stretch, the last piece of the puzzle, simply cannot be accomplished without YOU! I am passionate about getting this new shirt design into your hands as quickly as possible but I won't be able to without your financial support. It is my goal to raise $10,000 dollars through this Kickstarter campaign. That money will go directly toward the necessary costs for a first production run. Please keep in mind that this shirt is gender neutral, available for anyone who connects with the design. Remember, a Zippa T is made to be as versatile as you - zip it up, let it hang, tuck it in, layer it... whatever fits your unique style! I invite you to join my vision, partner with me, and back my project. This piece allows my dream to become your reality - a quality shirt design that is made to empower YOU!
Made in the U.S.A, locally produced in LA:
Zippa T is 100% manufactured in the U.S.A. It is my goal to support jobs and the local economy as I produce this new design. My producer is located in the city of Los Angeles and follows ethical standards. As I alluded to before, it has been quite the journey to connect with people who will make the best possible product through the greatest possible means, but I am fully confident that my producer will do just that. I strongly believe that our partnership together will be overall beneficial for the local economy and sustainability of ethical practices in the garment district here in Los Angeles.
With this decision to produce in the U.S. comes a few barriers of entry into the fashion industry, primarily financial. The cost to produce a cut and sew operation locally is steep, however, as stated before, I am convinced this is worth fighting for. The costs of quality and ethics are high, but they are absolutely irreplaceable. This, though, is where the good news comes in. Because you will be first to fund and believe in this design, I am offering my shirts at a severely discounted price throughout the entirety of the Kickstarter campaign. This is my way of saying thank you for choosing to partner and journey with us!
Risks and challenges
The story of my journey with this design has been without perfection. My journey constantly surrounds themes of trial and resiliency. I am committed to carrying out this production run in order to get this design into your hands as quick as possible. As mentioned before, I waited over a year to release this design to the public because it mattered to me to make sure everything was properly in line; i am confident in this and the same goes for my ability to produce Zippa T and get it into your hands! I have taken the time to ensure that the product you will receive is not only properly produced, but also made of the highest quality sourced materials available.
Production waits only on the money from your pledges and this new shirt design is ready to be made and shipped to you. I hope you can join me in this journey and be understanding and patient with the fulfillment process as I am going to work as hard as possible to get the shirts shipped as quick as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

As for a more qualitative answer: the shirts can be most assimilated to American Apparel sizing if you are familiar with that brand. The shirts are more slimmer fitting and a bit longer than your average shirt. The sizes are true to your gut instinct when asked 'what size a shirt are you?' If anything, they are even a little more giving with the flexible fabric and longer length than some shirts if you are in between sizes.
