Imagine if your aquarium was able to notify you from anywhere in the world when its pH began drifting abnormally, the heater broke and threw your temperature out of whack, or even when you needed to do a water change.
Beyond that, imagine if you were given actionable insights to correct those issues directly from your smartphone. That’s the idea behind FishBit, a simple monitor and controller that allows you to enjoy your aquarium effortlessly.
FishBit BETA is a monitor that measures pH, salinity and temperature, a controller for your other aquarium equipment like lighting and pumps, and an app accessible on your smartphone or web browser.
We’re launching a 30 unit BETA to get your input on how to make FishBit better. As a backer you will receive a FishBit BETA by June 2015 and will have the opportunity to help shape what FishBit should look and work like.
We know it's asking a lot to believe in us early-on, but because you did you will be first to receive a retail version of FishBit when they’re ready!
FishBit BETA allows us to get your beneficial feedback before we send FishBit into final production. From helping us test our hardware for durability and compatibility, to allowing us to learn more about how you keep your aquarium beautiful, you will play a huge role in the development of FishBit. And rest assured, if issues arise we will work tirelessly to make them right.
Setting up FishBit BETA takes minutes, not hours:
1. Download the FishBit app, then enter your WiFi credentials.
2. Drop the monitor in your aquarium and FishBit will instantly track your water’s pH, salinity and temperature.
3. Connect your other equipment like lighting, pumps, and heater to our controller and set up simple automations by selecting triggers and actions from the app.
It's that easy. Really! Now enjoy your aquarium with piece of mind.
We are on track to ship FishBit BETA by June 2015. And because we are manufacturing these in-house, we will ship FishBit units as they are completed. The sooner you become a backer, the sooner you’ll receive your device!
FishBit is a team of seven enthusiasts with engineering and design backgrounds. Together we bring experience from companies like IDEO, Leo Burnett, JDSU and Uber. We’re working with experts and are always eager to find new partners to grow the aquarium hobby.
When times get tough, we turn to our fearless mascot: Cassius the Crab, seen here being a beast:
Our team created FishBit because we found ourselves surrounded by an amazing community of people. We hope you'll back our project and help us make our dream of making owning an aquarium simple come true.

Risks and challenges
There are always significant challenges in producing and delivering hardware products. And although our decision to run a limited pre-production Beta mitigates future risk, we can expect there to be challenges with equipment reliability and compatibility during the Beta.
We’re planning to mitigate much of the risk with the Beta by offering staggered shipping, meaning as individual devices are assembled we will immediately ship them to backers so the feedback loop begins early on.
There are also factors outside of our direct control such as unexpected changes in component lead times, availability, or cost that could affect our delivery timeline, but we are working hard to mitigate those risks and plan to be transparent throughout the delivery process. And finally, we plan to work with proven companies to help ensure that your devices (and other rewards) arrive in perfect condition at their delivery destination.
Should any unforeseen issues arise, we will make sure to have resources in place to overcome any of these difficulties.
As our early-adopters and backers you will have a direct line to our engineering team. Should you experience any issue, we will work tirelessly to make it right! Whether it's a compatibility issue with your lighting or pump, or a monitor that isn't recording accurate readings.
Our team has experience shipping products (six to date) while at previous companies, and we are fortunate enough to work with the folks at Highway1, a hardware startup incubator.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
