SLOW DOWN THE PACE FOR THE HUMAN RACE
This is your chance to travel with some of the world's best surfers and musicians. If you can't make it to the trip you can still be part of this epic surf series.
What separates this project from others is that both surfing and music will be recorded on the same trip.
The goal of the series is to bring viewers a weekly episode that features original music, epic surfing and collaborates the audience with the artists and surfers along the way.
We'll be answering your questions right here on KickStarter. You ask. We'll post. Because we've only got three goals:
1. Give the surfers and bands the freedom to make something truly beautiful.
2. Represent straight up for the little groms to show them a world outside of strip malls and big gulps.
3. Do it with you. That's the fun of KickStarter.
Please check out the rewards on the right. Having your support at any level inspires the team!
Filming, Surfing, Music: FREE. Because we love it. Thanks for the opportunity.
Air Travel: 15-20K When you track the good waves you have to get on it fast. Last-minute plane tickets cost hella big bills. But that's how you get good waves. Save money and book in advance, get skunked. Not happening on our watch.
Transportation/ Hotels/ Food: 5K Car/van/burro. We ain't picky. But the best beaches aren't at the airport. Just need something to eat and a place to recharge.
Rewards: 10K Best rewards ever. Check it out. Right over there ----->
The post-production is part of the rewards. We have a team standing by to mix the surf and sounds to create this epic series.
Segments from Luke Thorpe's 2009 Release '"Sounds Of Waves"
(Short Video Luke Thorpe made for his Daughter's 1st Grade Class)
Here's the crew we've got lined up for the first few webisodes.
Luke “The Lens” Thorpe
Luke has shot waves and riders from Bali to Boston. By day, he's your average corporate stiff. But get him out of his cubicle, and he catches everything – out amongst the waves and back on land – and brings it to you in all its HD glory. The guy behind the guys for this trip is also the guy behind AtTheBeach.tv
Asher “The Beast from the East” Nolan
Asher beats up his local Jacksonville breaks and recently crushed the field to qualify for Quik Pro NY.
Doug “The Salvador Dali of single fin” Bautista
The lead singer of the Hawaiian Reggae Band Humble Soul and has represented the spirit of Aloha in his music and surfing for over a decade. What you may not know is that Doug shapes classic single fins and is one of a few that has held onto the classic single-fin style.
Damien “Skills” Wills
This Aussie has a freakish mix of skills. He switches between huge airs and huge slabs. He is looking forward to getting back to Portugal to surf the wave that got away. What you may not know is that Dom loves to film and you can expect him to be in position wherever its heavy.
Eric “Bring It” Brigmond
Musician. Surfer. All around mellow dude. He traveled the world with Donavon for six years and there isn’t an instrument he can’t play well.
Cody “Code Red” Thompson
New school surfer who can put board on rail. He can fly the friendly skies like a Delta 747. What you may not know is that DJ Code Red has beats for days.
Pat “Music” Hall
This New Hampshire shop owner plays in a band and organizes music festivals. Besides organizing our gigs he’ll be our own private security. Kung fu chop!
Pete “The Menace” Mendia
The Keyser Soze of the trip. This legend was nominated one of the top five freesurfers in the world by his peers. Probably because of his mellow 'tude and monster turns.
Pearl Jam meets Abba meets a nunchuck, this Portuguese duo will groove “La Moustache” off your face. Alex and Seb are currently taking over the world with their sound. Having traveled the coast of Europe playing music for over a decade they will be our hosts and guides. It will be amazing to hear the sounds once they team up with Dougie, Eric and Pat.
In the spirit of Kickstarter, we want to offer one backer the opportunity to come along. Whether you are looking to get filmed surfing, play music, film, edit or just come along for the ride, this is your chance.
Risks and challenges
It will be a challenge to coordinate the schedules of this large crew of busy professionals. We want to get everyone on board for the same week and I am confident we can make it happen. However, if someone can not make it, we will poll the backers with options of who can fill the empty spot (and we have some legends waiting in the wings that will not disappoint).
Technology is always a challenge on these trips. We need to be sure we have working gear and constant backups all the footage. From experience I've learned to anticipate things going wrong and always have option B and C which are no different than A. The moments happen fast and we'll be ready.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
