Hello! We are looking to Kickstarter to help us to expand our ceramics studio, Peaches, into an independent and sustainable ceramics studio as we graduate from the University of Oregon this June. With the help of your generous donations, we will be able to expand Peaches into our own studio space and purchase the industrial equipment we need to create ceramic tableware.
In exchange for your kind contributions, you will have the opportunity to pre-order limited edition Peaches ceramic ware. We are offering this exclusive tableware collection to the Kickstarter community for special prices. Please take the time to watch our video to learn more about the people and the process behind Peaches. Any contribution, large or small, will help us achieve our goal!
The porcelain tableware of Peaches is hand made through a labor-intensive process called slip casting. It involves pouring liquid clay, or slip, into a plaster mold which then absorbs the moisture from the slip. A wall thickness then begins to form a hollow vessel. The forms are removed from their molds and put onto a pottery wheel where they are trimmed to height and smoothed with scrapers, sponges, and the human hand.
Next, the cast forms are first fired to over 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, after which they are sanded and washed. Glaze is then applied to specific areas of the forms for beauty and function, and the pieces are glaze-fired to 2,350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lastly, the vitrified forms are sanded smooth and stamped with a peach.
We will Need
Our studio is rapidly expanding, and we are receiving inquires for large wholesale orders from stores and clients on a weekly basis. We are excited to expand into our own studio space which will accommodate the large-scale ceramic production that we need to financially sustain our business.
We are asking for funding to pay the initial security deposit on a new studio space and to purchase industrial equipment. We will need an industrial size electric kiln, a drying kiln, slip mixers, ceramic wheels, air compressor, industrial shelving for our work, many small tools and fixtures, and sturdy work tables.
We are offering a Kickstarter exclusive porcelain tableware collection in exchange for your generous donations. This porcelain ware is designed to be timeless, minimal, and beautiful in any home environment. We hope that you enjoy these porcelain forms as much as we do! Please note that these are handmade objects and each piece may vary slightly from the pictures.
