Seasons Greetings to all our wonderful Kickstarter Backers!
What an incredible year it has been. We have seen the launch of the LiveCode Community edition which has been a massive success and a key step for us to realizing the goal of making coding accessible and achievable for all.
I would personally like to thank you for your continued support and dedication to LiveCode. We are so proud of our users and biased or not, we have the best community a company could wish for. We wish you a Merry Christmas and we will continue to work hard to make sure it’s a very happy New Year. We really can’t wait to share 2014 with you.
There is a lot of good news to bring you! We've released LiveCode 6.5, with the first of the promised stretch goals, Resolution Independence. You can now scale your app to fit any screen size or resolution on mobile platforms with one line of code.
With the completion of Resolution Independence, the next targets are Theming and Unicode. These have now moved up into the active strands of our Roadmap and are making great strides. You can read about our work on the goal of "Unicode, it just works" here.
Our much expanded team of C++ programmers are making steady progress on the core Syntax project. This is the major piece of work your Kickstarter money is funding, where we rework the engine to be modular, with clean English-like syntax throughout. The modularisation and cleanup mean that the new engine will be a thing of beauty for community contributors to work on.
We have shipped 75% of your rewards so far. Another reward will be going out in the next few days, with the year of On-rev Hosting for anyone who chose that at the £70 level instead of a license, or who is eligible at one of the higher tiers.
Many of you have written to enquire about the Cloud/Database Academy, the only other outstanding non-physical item we have not yet delivered. I'm happy to say this has finally reached the stage of having its detailed documentation written. This is going to take another week or two, I'm confident we will have this ready for you as a great start to your New Year.
There has been a delay in shipping out your physical goods. The reason for this is that this package includes the LiveCode Syntax Dictionary, which cannot be shipped until the new syntax is actually finished. We have therefore decided to start shipping out the rest of the goods in January, and send the dictionary separately later. So if you backed us at the £640 level or above you can look forward to a great New Year treat!
Finally, some rather exciting news: there is a new test build of LiveCode for the Raspberry Pi! While this is an unofficial build and still very experimental, it has been received with considerable interest and enthusiasm. You can read all about it here, and get your own Pi download here. Join in on the engine contributors forums if you fancy getting your hands dirty!
We'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and a happy and prosperous New Year, and once more our heartfelt thanks for all your support.
