Sesame Street Family Play now available!

Posted by Hide&Seek (Creator)

It’s with enormous pride, and an irrepressible sense of silliness, that we announce that Sesame Street Family Play – powered By Tiny Games is now available on the App Store.

It’s free to download and try until Sep 22, and we’re confident that if you give it a go, your day with get a little bit brighter, whether or not there’s a 3-year-old in the vicinity. We’d love your comments – and your tweets and App Store reviews – so let us know how you get on!

The Making of Family Play

Thanks to the enormous generosity of you, our Kickstarter backers, we’ve been able to spend the summer building the core Tiny Games engine. Another early supporter was Sesame Street – as soon as they saw the Tiny Games concept, they started to imagine how little, context-specific games could help families build patterns of real-world play, and how well-judged game mechanics could help young children build vital skills ahead of starting formal education. Working with them has been as delightful as you might imagine – passionate, playful, ambitious people one and all. The end result is a game which takes everything we’ve learned about Tiny Games and puts it on the world’s best loved street.

All of your favourites are here – Elmo, Cookie, Bert, The Count and more – and all they want to do is play. Big Bird will teach you Zoo Am I?, Ernie wants to play Spoonapult. Oscar loves a grouchy round of Knock It Off. Grover’s a fan of Scribble Me Timbers. Whether you’re at home, or out and about – at a restaurant, waiting in line, at a park – or even taking a car or plane trip, we’ve got more than 150 games to keep you covered. You’ll never be short of a game to play with younger kids again, and you can always be confident that the games they’re learning are calibrated to keep them engaged with the physical world around them. If you’re curious, read more about the design ethos we defined around making games for under-5s that are less screen-based, and more real-world focused. After exhaustive testing with 3 years olds who think they’re robots with cups for hands, and 4 year olds who’re building floor-monsters out of jumpers and buckets, we think we’re on to something...

Rewards Update

Some quick updates on where we stand with the rewards. You should have received their digital rewards pack in the mail - please get in touch with if yours is missing. We've been hard at work designing custom games for upper tier backers, with such winners as "Your Lovely Spouse", "While their Children Weep" and at least one game about spoons.

The physical rewards have all either gone to print, or will go to print today! You'll have them all in October, right on on schedule...

My daughters love family play. Good job!

Hi friends, as a quick note we're referring to the digital rewards received by email above. We'll be sending out a backer survey requesting postal addresses for the physical rewards before long.

Hi - thanks Matt! You're exactly right. Our earlier Canadian gremlin is now fixed, so Canada app store users should now be able to download. Hope you have fun!

For any other Canadians, I've tried again, and it appears to be working now. Not sure why it was causing trouble before. Thanks, Hide & Seek! I really look forward to trying this with my nephew!

      Hi all!

Totally understand your frustrations if you're outside the UK and the US. As an interim solution, we've worked with Sesame to make available promo codes to backers outside those territories. If you're not in the US or the UK, please send an email to:

Stating what territory you're in, and we'll send you a promo code.

      Thanks for your patience!

It would be nice if kick starter backers got the in-app purchases included but hey-ho. I look forward to the main app

I'm in Canada, but can't seem to find the game in the store when searching, and the link in the email points to the American store. Am I perhaps doing something incorrectly?

      So frustrating. France here.
Note that you can manage to open another account on the US store, even without an US card. You will be able to download only free apps, and it will complicate updates, etc. but it works.

Hi everyone. You're right, the app is only currently available in the UK, US and Canadian app stores. We're really sorry we didn't make this clearer in the backer update. The app *will* be available world-wide - but the timings of the releases are slightly beyond our control.

When Tiny Games launches, that will be available world-wide. no question.

      Not available in Germany.

Can't get it in Australia either. Sigh.

I'm sure there are good reasons. The app store can be weird, and so can the legal requirements for major branded things.
I'm optimistic that this will help Hide&Seek nail the tiny games app launch, and as this was sort of a weird side bonus, I'm not to troubled by the fact I can't grab the Sesame St app just yet.

Why is it only available in the American app store? Is that an because of the Sesame Street license? Disappointed :(

    14. Space Babies on

Only in the American app store. Which is silly, if not insulting.

    15. Insomnicron on

Aw man, not available in New Zealand... I hope the tiny games app doesn't suffer from that flaw when the codes are sent out.
