All year long Uncle Bonsai has included two songs in our shows and all year long the most commonly asked post-concert question is, “Which CD has those songs?” And all year long we’ve had to break the bad news that neither “Go to Sleep” nor “The Monster in the Closet” have been recorded. Yet. That’s just about to change. Uncle Bonsai is heading into the studio to record both tunes and will make them available this fall. But wait, there’s more. Since our 'failed children’s songs' have done so well, we figured we ought to add a 'failed children’s book'. So, not only are we recording the tunes, we’re making a book. Arni Adler and Patrice O’Neill have busily been creating artwork illustrating both tunes. Arni has taken on “The Monster in the Closet”, while Patrice is scribbling away at “Go to Sleep”. This reversible book will include illustrated lyrics for both tunes along with a CD featuring both tunes. Read it one way, it’s “Go to Sleep”. Turn it upside down and flip it over, it’s “The Monster in the Closet”. Pop the CD into the player of your choice and use it as a desperate, last ditch attempt to motivate anyone to quit being awake already. Turn the disc upside down and flip it over, it's a coaster.
We need your help to make this project fly off of our dining room tables and basement floors to the printer and back landing in nice big boxes we can haul around to all of our concerts from now on, which will give us something to both celebrate and complain about.
All funds will go toward the production of the book and accompanying CD. We’ll make sure that all backers will be the first to receive the first-ever Uncle Bonsai book. Show us a little love, or a lot. Either way, you get a book.
While we're off to a flying start, thanks everyone for that, we hope that people will still considering helping us fund this project even if we make it past the $4000 mark. That was the amount we figured it was safe to try funding through Kickstarter, and it basically covers the cost of the printing, but there are all sorts of other expenses that go along with "self publishing," including shipping, the recording and mastering and disc replication, the cards and art posters . . . heck, even just getting an ISBN number costs money these days! We assure you that anything you might be generous enough to give will go directly into this project. Plus, there are still some pretty nice rewards . . . and all that gratitude.
