About this project
We, singer-songwriter Phoebe Novak and rock band Cannönball Statman, are going on a 2-week tour of the USA this December, in support of our new split EP "Dogs vs. Cats". Because we have a lot of gear and band members to bring on the road, we need to rent a cargo van for those two weeks, as our method of transportation. We also need to pay for gas, lodging, and food. Plus, we need to order copies of our new split CD that we can sell to fans on our tour.
We are estimating that renting a cargo van for two weeks will cost us somewhere between $1000-$1500. Gas money for traveling between stops will be approximately $500, and we'll need to set aside another $500 for lodging and food. Friends in a bunch of the cities we're touring in have already offered us a place to stay for free, which means we won't have to spend a huge amount on lodging. The remainder of the money will be used for ordering copies of our new split CD, making promotional materials for the tour (posters, T-shirts), and making rewards for our Kickstarter backers.
The majority of the shows on the tour are still being confirmed and booked, as of August 2013. Because of this, we haven't begun announcing show dates yet. We are hoping to finish booking the tour by October at the latest, and we'll be able to announce the shows by November. In the mean time, here's a list of cities and states we'll be in on our tour.
12/6 - Brooklyn, NY
12/7 - Philadelphia, PA
12/8 - Baltimore, MD
12/9 - Washington, DC
12/10 - Richmond, VA
12/11 - City TBA, NC
12/12 - Charlotte, NC
12/13 - Atlanta, GA
12/14-12/15 - Cities TBA, TN
12/16-12/17 - Cities TBA, VA
12/18 - Vienna, VA
12/19 - City TBA, NJ
12/20 - New York, NY
Risks and challenges
There are many risks involved in this tour. The van could break down! Band members could get sick! Band members could get sick of each other! Venues can shut down unexpectedly! When issues like this arise, we will do everything in our power to ensure we make it to each show on time, and give fans in each city the best live experience possible. If this is ever simply not possible, we will do what we can to reschedule any shows that end up being cancelled.
Also, while touring will be a challenge of its own, we will also be documenting the tour with digital video and photography. One of the reasons for this is that backers who pledge $50 or $100 will receive one-of-a-kind portions of that documentation as part of their reward ($50 gets a signed 11x17" poster of a photograph taken on the tour, $100 gets a DVD of unique behind-the-scenes video in addition to a poster). This is another challenge, because it requires us to be our own camera crew. Thankfully, Cannönball Statman's bassist Bob Black has experience documenting live events, being the curator and co-founder of EyeLoveMedia Group, a Facebook page that includes a large collection of his own photographs and video from NYC concerts. Jesse Statman, frontman/guitarist of Cannönball Statman, is a contributor to EyeLoveMedia Group, in addition to directing music videos for local artists, and his own short films (including the video for this Kickstarter campaign).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
