2018 ScienceBuzz Symposium

ScienceBuzz Foundation’s goal is to get more students to become scientists, engineers, doctors, or leaders and enter STEM. With this mission in mind, we are excited to announce our first annual symposium.

The 2018 ScienceBuzz Symposium is the first, completely free conference exclusively for middle and high school students. It will be hosted at Parkland High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania, but will include students from around the state and nearby regions. The event will include national guest speakers, student workshop sessions, student poster presentations, at least five research scholarship awards, organizational and company exhibits, and unique networking opportunities.

We hope to provide young students an opportunity to find their passions in science and tech. It is crucial that we continue to support and grow this movement of motivating and promoting students. With more people joining this movement, our vision can move forward.

The Symposium is an all-day event, with activities and sessions planned from 9 am to 5 pm. ScienceBuzz Symposium can help thousands of students in their future career plans, exposing them to the multitude of potential opportunities that they never would’ve discovered until after college.

Why do we need funds?

In order to make this event a success, ScienceBuzz needs at least $5,000. As a nonprofit organization, the majority of funding will be coming from you. We will be needing funds to promote this event across the tri-state area and reach out to more students. Furthermore, several speakers are traveling from across the nation, and we need to provide them with transportation.

Help Us Reach Our Goal

To fund the planned, one-day conference, we will need at least $5,000. With more funds, we can improve and expand our mission:

  • Stage 1: Initial Goal [$5,000]
  • Stage 2: Ten Scholarship Awards will be provided [$10,000]
  • Stage 3: Multiple Day Conference [$15,000]

Your Support

Your support will allow us to make this event be an extreme success. It will set the foundation for future symposiums, across the world, solely dedicated to any and all middle/high school students. Your support will allow us to reach more students and aspiring scientists. It will rapidly expand this community of motivated students and professionals willing to help. Your support can get more scientists, companies, engineers, and institutions to help and inspire youth in STEM.

We need more budding, imaginative students pursuing STEM-related fields in this world - those who will be the next generation of fighting cancer, treating heart attacks, and preventing fatalities. The first ScienceBuzz Symposium is a step closer toward the right solution.

What is ScienceBuzz Foundation?

ScienceBuzz Foundation, founded and run by high school senior student Roy Ghosh in 2017, revolves around the website ScienceBuzz.com. As a registered nonprofit organization, our mission is to publicize and promote young scientists and their work.

Where are we today?

As of today, we have over six hundred published, reviewed articles with more than 6,000 registered users, coming from 22 countries and 48 states. We are supported by the United States' National Institutes of Health, Janssen Biotech, Genentech, Amgen, American Association for Pharmaceutical Scientists, and the National Association for Gifted Children, among others.

About the Founder

Roy Ghosh is a current senior at Parkland High School and has participated in science fairs and research internships for the past six years. He has been an intern at the National Institutes of Health for the past two years, performing research on metastatic cancers and chemotherapeutics. Before then, during middle school and as a freshman, Roy had been an independent researcher at Lehigh University’s Bionanomechanics Lab. Roy had been personally affected by the lack of a platform to showcase and communicate his work, and thus founded ScienceBuzz to help thousands of other students like him.

He has won several research awards and has been honored at multiple conferences for his work on ScienceBuzz. He has received the support from several biotech companies and institutions across the nation for ScienceBuzz. In under a year, he has been an exhibitor and invited speaker at three national conferences.

Risks and challenges

The main purpose of the symposium is to have "One Day of Powerful Talks." Therefore, getting internationally-renowned speakers and icons from the scientific world to inspire the students is essential to the success of the event. We have been gathering a series of speakers to overcome this challenge, including a Nobel Prize Laureate, the head of a leading scientific institution, college admissions officers, university professors, leaders in gifted education, and top biopharma executives.

Additionally, our exhibitors and workshop sessions will provide the tools necessary for students to be exposed to all options and career pathways in STEM. We plan to have biopharma companies, national scientific organizations, and gifted programs as the primary exhibitors during the symposium.
