Plotz Expansion Complete

Posted by Jason Whisler (Creator)

Hey folks!

It's been a long time in the works, and now it's here!  The first expansion of Plotz is feature complete and available for everyone to play on the Nuclear Compost site:

http://www.nuclearcompost.com/plotz.html

All of the planned features made it in, plus a few additional ones.  You can now look forward to farming with:

  • Tons of new graphics by Eoghan Cowan
  • An isometric viewing perspective
  • The CSA program so you can grow food for your local community
  • The Sale Cart where you can modify prices for your goods
  • The Root Cellar to keep your goods fresh for longer
  • The Compost Bin to compost plant scraps and keep nutrients cycling
  • A calendar tool to let you plan for the future and keep track of the past
  • Streamlined menus and updated user interface
  • Calendar and wallet notifications to keep you informed

Working on Plotz has been a great adventure, and I'm especially thankful to all of you for helping to support the game!  I hope you all enjoy Plotz for a long time to come.

Plotz will keep on growing!

Hey Everyone!

The campaign is over, and while it didn't go quite like I had hoped, it was still a great time all around.  This was my first experience putting my ideas out in front of people, and it was really rewarding.  All of your ideas, feedback, and support have already helped the game become a lot stronger.

Taking what I've learned from this whole thing, my focus for the near future will be to try to get Plotz looking good, adding sound, and generally trying to get the game to project more atmosphere.  I'm a programmer first and foremost, so my focus has always been on providing lots of interesting features.  I really under-valued the sensory experience side of things in the demo.

For the game as a whole, my plan is to continue to offer it for free on my website for the time being.  If it starts to gain some more popularity I'd consider trying to raise money again, but for now I just want people to be able to enjoy the game and continue to be a part of making it better.

To all of those amazing folks who backed the project, I want to say a huge and heartfelt thank you!  Your support means the world to me :)

Now with compost

Posted by Jason Whisler (Creator)

Hey Everybody!

Over the past couple of weeks I've been working on the first pass at the new features for the first expansion of Plotz. You can see them in action in video format here: http://youtu.be/DCwvCD2L33k.

This includes the new compost feature which breaks down excess plant material to form a new kind of fertilizer. It'll help keep your farm sustainable by maintaining higher levels of nutrients with fewer inputs. Composting material takes time though, so as with all of Plotz, planning ahead is important. Let me know what you think of the composting idea so far!

Next up I'll be working on implementing a simple Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. This will be an optional system where you can promise to deliver a certain amount of food to people on a certain date. It'll change the way you play Plotz on a fundamental level, requiring more advanced planning and give you some specific goals to work towards.

There's one week left on the KickStarter, so I just wanted to say another big thanks to everyone who's supported me and expressed their thoughts and interest in the game!

Plotz Progress

Posted by Jason Whisler (Creator)

Hello Friends!

Work on Plotz is continuing to go well. I've got a handful of new things to share with you today to keep you up to date.

First, Plotz got a nice mention on I-Luv-Games. Check out the article here: http://i-luv-games.com/?p=1787

Next, the quest to improve the overall look of Plotz has been making a good amount of progress. I've consulted a handful of different artists now, and they all agree that an isometric perspective would suit the game better. To accommodate this I created a prototype for an isometric game engine, and I now have a pretty good feel for it, so I'm confident I can transfer Plotz over to this style of graphics without too much trouble.

I'm waiting to get an example from a couple of different artists for what the new art style will really look like. I've got the first one already from artist Brian Luk (http://www.brianluk.com/gallery.html) which is below. Please keep in mind this is just the very first general idea for the what the game will look more like, it's not final graphics.

Finally, I've gotten a few new features started in Plotz, so I thought I'd show them off. Watch the video below to see the new Sale Cart feature as well as the implementation of organic vs. non-organic crops!  Watch it here:  http://youtu.be/Eca_8uJFHQ0
