After we launched our first word game, KERFUDDLE, we had the opportunity to speak with countless parents, teachers, and homeschoolers who told us the couldn't find a word/spelling game for their kids that was not only educational (which meant dull), but fun and engaging as well. That's how TREE TOP HOP came about.
TREE TOP HOP is unlike any other word/spelling game for kids. It's an adult style board game but designed for children five years of age and over. What's great about the game is that it's so much fun, kids won't know it's educational! We think that when you play TREE TOP HOP with your little ones, you'll agree that it's the most fun spelling game out there. And, since we’re parents, and aunts and uncles who represent all the adults who will be sharing the experience with their children, it is just as important to us that you enjoy playing as well.
Do kids care that they’re learning when they play TREE TOP HOP? - NOPE! they’re having too much fun. As parents, teachers, homeschoolers, do we care? - YUP! There’s nothing more rewarding then to watch our kids grow.
TREE TOP HOP is easy to learn and is quick to play, so spending quality time with family is something everyone can do.
TREE TOP HOP takes place on a magical island where creatures of all kinds swarm the waters that surround Treasure Falls. High above, safe on the tree tops are letters of the alphabet that grow like apples and oranges. Connected by rope bridges, young explorers must race and hop their way from tree top to tree top collecting the letters they need to spell words. The first player to collect three word cards can make their way to Treasure Falls to win the game and claim the treasure!
WHAT MAKES TREE TOP HOP DIFFERENT?
- Adult style board game for children. - Non-Linear movement (you don’t just move from A to B and B to C...). - Players make their own choices about which path to take to reach the letters. - You don’t need to know how to spell in order to play. - Teaches reasoning, cognitive skills, spelling, social skills, and so much more.
HOW TO PLAY
The game board is designed to allow kids to think outside of the box and move in many directions to reach the letters of the alphabet which they will need to spell words. Unlike other games that force players to go from point A to B, and B to C..., TREE TOP HOP opens up a whole new level of skill sets in order for kids to figure out the best path to take. The vowels (in red) are placed in the center of the board around Treasure Falls with the consonants (in blue) carefully arranged so that no matter which campsite a player starts from, they’ll have the same opportunity to be the first to spell a word.
In order to create more action, and help speed up game play, there are four rope bridges that are yellow and four that are purple. Whenever a player lands on one of these colored bridges, they can hop to any other matching bridge on the board and quickly get them self closer to a letter they need. Players should be careful because there are also broken slats on some of the bridges. If a player lands on one, they’ll have to go back to their campsite and start their next turn from there, so they’ll need to figure out a way around them.
Currently, TREE TOP HOP is a prototype, so once we have funding, we would like to improve the graphics on the box cover, word cards, and the game board. The game will look even better then it already does when we can add more dimension and fullness to the graphics. Manufacturing board games is very expensive, especially for small print runs made in the USA. In order to keep the price affordable for families and schools, if we have enough support from Kickstarter backers like you, we should be able to accomplish our goal of making TREE TOP HOP available to everyone.
Our ultimate goal is to see TREE TOP HOP on store shelves everywhere. So, if having fun with your children and helping them learn is important to you, then please pledge your support today.
Risks and challenges
Having gained valuable experience through our first successful Kickstarter campaign, we are confident we will be able to meet our goals for Tree Top Hop. We would love to produce the game in the USA, but manufacturing costs are very high. If we are able to raise enough funding to produce a large enough quantity of games, so that the cost is affordable for families and schools, then we'll certainly make the game here. An additional benefit of trying to keep manufacturing in the USA is that it will take far less time to receive the game, so we can fulfill the orders sooner. Since the game is in prototype mode, we'd like to improve the graphics and illustrations for the game board, game box, and word cards, and that all takes some time. With the holidays right around the corner, we'll try our hardest to get the games out to backers early in the new year. We are in contact with a shipping/fulfillment company to help us to expedite shipping as soon as the games are ready. We thank you again for your support of a game we are extremely proud of and which we know kids around the world will enjoy playing.
