We go live on Steam in one hour!


Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know that Our Darker Purpose will launch on Steam in one hour!  Thanks again for all the amazing support you've shown us.  We can't wait to launch!  

And please tell your friends about the game!  Support us on Facebook!  Tweet!  Mention us in blogs!  We'd be so grateful!  You're the best!

(By the way, email us if you don't think you got a Steam Key or the code to unlock digital goods --  And don't worry, we haven't forgotten about the other outstanding rewards, like the digital art book, wallpaper, shirts.  We'll get to those too, stay tuned!)

Five... Four.... Three...


Big news! As you know, we've been testing the full beta on Steam for over a month. We are in the very final phase of development, getting the game from late-beta to launch state. Assuming we don't discover any game-breaking surprises in the next 24 hours or so, we will launch to the public on Steam this week!

Here's where we need your help.  Over the past month (and really all the way back to the Alpha) you've been amazing -- helping us find bugs, make key tweaks, and generally improve the game.  We'd be grateful if you could play the latest build this weekend and post to the forums if you catch any bugs!  At this point, our priority is stability -- if you get a crash or something where you can't progress, definitely let us know.  And if you play for a few hours and don't catch anything, tell us that too!  

By the way, we sent out unique codes for your special KS digital goods on January 12th-13th.  If you didn't get anything, check your spam filter -- these emails get trapped there sometimes.  If that doesn't work, email us at and we can resend it!  There's more detail on what those goods are at each tier on the forums at

And one more thing -- every time we read a comment from a new poster that reads "I've spent 30 hours on ODP" it's amazing and humbling and gives us the energy to keep giving everything we can to this game. As always, thank you so much!

Steam keys and soundtracks and we're launching really soon!


Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season! We are putting the final touches on Our Darker Purpose -- the game is playable from start to finish, the lessons and achievements and perks are all in, we've got the (private) Beta up on Steam, and we are oh-so-close to launch!

Oh yes, and by the way... Steam keys! You should have received one today with instructions on how to download the game on Steam. Let us know if you didn't get it or if it's not working. We're also updating our build on Humble Bundle, and you can always check out the latest version on the Our Darker Purpose forums as well. 

Also... the soundtrack, from our awesome composer Nate Fenwick Smith! The same email with the Steam key should also have a key to download your own personal copy of the Our Darker Purpose soundtrack. A student lifetime is finite (especially for those on the terrace gardening rotation), but the haunting melodies of Edgewood can now be yours forever. Tell your envious friends to buy it at:

Beta is Live! And (Most) Rewards Sent!


Hope that you had a great weekend! We wanted to share some good news -- the Our Darker Purpose beta is officially live on our site! 

The new version ("The Administrators' Archive") features all of the levels, all of the factions, and the full story of the Edgewood Home for Lost Children. There's a ton of new enemies and bosses to battle, new floors to discover, new music from our amazing composer Nate Fenwick Smith, and new items and perks and lessons to help you on your way! We've also tweaked the difficulty down a bit in the early levels and made some other changes to change the pace of the game. As always, this is brand new and there are bound to be lots of ways we can make the game better (and some sneaky bugs that have slipped through playtesting so far), so your feedback is going to super helpful to us. We can't wait to see what you think! 

We'll get this up on Humble after we've had it up on the site for a bit, but if you want to try it right now it's available here:, same as the other builds. 

So what's the plan going forward? Over the next couple of months, we're going to tighten the game -- get the balancing right, add more sound effects, fix any new bugs we find, and maybe add a few new surprises for you to discover. The game is going to keep getting better... but we're super excited about where it is right now! 

Oh yes, and one more thing... physical rewards! If you backed at a tier where you're getting physical rewards, odds are that you'll have your art this week (and some of them have already arrived). 

For the larger poster, we chose this amazing illustration from our artist Caitlyn Kurilich. 

For the print, we chose the original haunting title screen graphic from our artist Gergely Gizella. 

We hope you like them! If you're expecting physical rewards and nothing has arrived by this Friday, or if something has gone wrong with the shipping or poster, let us know at International backers, please note that we haven't shipped your rewards yet -- we're going to ship your posters and t-shirts together in one tube. You'll get them soon! 

As for those shirts... we've decided to go with American Apparel shirts, and we're currently waiting on a test order. More on that soon!
