We’ve finally reached the point where our day-to-day technology looks and acts just like Star Trek: we have pocket-sized touchscreen devices that can perform a myriad of tasks, from browsing to communicating to creativity, all with a finger swipe. Gaming is also a big part of this brave new mobile world, but many of the genres that are popular on traditional platforms, such as platformers and shooters, have a tough time making the leap to touchscreens: no matter how easy Geordi LaForge makes it look, it’s hard to make the complex, precise movements that reflex-intensive games demand when you don’t have physical controls to work with.
We’re not the first people to realize this is a problem. Nor are we the first to propose an answer to it. But most of the solutions we’ve seen before now boil down to the same “bulky controller attachment” concept – which defeats the entire purpose behind mobile gaming. Instead, we’ve decided to take a different approach.
Enter the Invisible Gamepad: a set of high-quality stick-on controls that you can attach to your touchscreen devices to provide the tactile feedback you’ve been missing in your mobile games. You can keep them on all the time – they add literally nothing to the size or weight of your device. Now you can enjoy console-style gaming anytime, anywhere!
As the name implies, we’ve stripped out everything that gets in the way of the essential controller experience, creating a convenient and precise solution that lets you focus less on where your thumbs are and more on where the action is.
The tracing lasers we use are expensive, but only they can produce the quality and precision we’ve set as our standard. We asked real gamers what they thought about our product, and the response was almost unanimous: mobile games are more fun with the Invisible Gamepad!
It also works for games that don’t need physical controls but require high precision, such as Angry Birds: you can stick a landmark on the “sweet spot” and nail those pigs every time. You can even use them for things that don’t have anything to do with gaming: you can now feel the camera button when you shoot a self-portrait, or control your music player without ever taking it out of your pocket. The possibilities are endless!
Whether you’re interested in classic platform games, first-person shooters, or fast-paced sports games, the Invisible Gamepad can put the feel of a real controller under your thumbs, improving your entire gameplay experience.
The Invisible Gamepad is easy to stick on and peel off: you can simply swap out controls between games. Or you could apply different controls to each edge of the screen and rotate your device as necessary – it’s your choice!
The Invisible Gamepad is made from smooth transparent film with raised edges providing tactile feedback. Buttons feel like physical circles on the screen; D-pads are an unmistakable cross shape. Analog pads are larger circles that help keep your thumbs on the on-screen analog controls, giving you precision on the level of a physical joystick.
Just choose the controls that best suit your game and device, stick them onto the screen, and enjoy an improved gaming experience. And you can still use your device for browsing, texting, watching video, or anything else without the Invisible Gamepad getting in the way – like the name suggests, it’s virtually invisible!
Most gaming accessories for touchscreen devices take the “mobile” out of mobile gaming: having to carry around a bulky controller attachment defeats the entire point of having games on a sleek pocket-sized device. The Invisible Gamepad is the only gaming accessory that you can keep attached to your touchscreen device at all times without limiting its functionality or portability.
Bluetooth controllers have physical buttons, but wireless input suffers from a slight lag: it takes time to process the radio signal, precious microseconds that can spell the difference between life or death in an action-packed game. With Invisible Gamepad, there’s no latency at all – no middleman between your touch and a registered input. For instant reaction and maximum precision, there’s no better option than Invisible Gamepad.
Olivier, the creator of Invisible Gamepad, is a hardcore gamer who tried out many different game controllers on his iPhone only to be disappointed by every single one: they all either covered part of the screen or were bulky add-ons he was liable to leave at home by accident. One day, he decided to put some dabs of clear glue on the screen to mark the location of the controls, and was amazed by the difference: the tactile feedback gave him precision on par with a physical controller.
Not long after that, he sketched out the basic outlines of the Invisible Gamepad controls. Encouraged by friends, he decided to have some prototypes produced: it was expensive, but it gave him a chance to test and improve the product until it received almost unanimously positive feedback from his testers. After this, Olivier was determined to bring Invisible Gamepad to the world by launching this Kickstarter project.
We’ve produced samples of the Invisible Gamepad with a wide range of suppliers and tested many different materials until we were fully satisfied by the final product. The only challenge left is to achieve the volume required to produce Invisible Gamepad at an affordable price for our customers.
Risks and challenges
Devoting a year of our lives to developing Invisible Gamepad might seem like an unhealthy level of obsession, but the results speak for themselves: Invisible Gamepad is a revolution in mobile gaming for hardcore and casual gamers alike. Even the harshest critics among our testers still have their Invisible Gamepad controls attached to their devices.
Invisible Gamepad is our way of thanking the gaming community for the countless hours of fun we’ve had. Our final challenge before we can bring this product to the world is to manufacture it in quantities large enough to bring down the cost per unit while still maintaining our high standards of quality.
If you back this project, not only will you get your own Invisible Gamepad, you’ll also be helping mobile gamers around the world!
