Perhaps I'm the last person that should be making exercise music. I don't like to exercise because of the little things... running shoes look too much like spaceships, and I always felt hopeless in gym class. But I know it feels good to move, so I made this exercise music, since music has always been able to inspire me to do things that I might otherwise avoid.
To that end, I have created what I believe to be the world's first progressive rock workout album. The album is called "Sadness And Companionship." It's a great soundtrack for a two- to four-mile run. The tempos keep your pace under control, the music is energetic and exciting, and even the quiet sections are intense. It also works as a stand-alone album that you can play in your home CD player while listening thoughtfully.
This will be my sixth album, but I would like to give it the treatment I couldn't afford to give my previous albums. I hired a mastering service to give this album the richness of sound it deserves, but I still need to hire a booking service to give my follow-up tour the fullness of dates it deserves, in addition to sending this out to as many reviewers and radio stations as possible so they can give it a little bit of the attention it deserves. This Kickstarter fund will pay for those things, plus the manufacture of the gatefold CD packaging you've seen in my last two compact disc releases. If, for some reason, there is any extra money, it will go straight into the gas fund for the tour.
The tour will be an energetic WORKOUT tour...how much I'll be able to actually work out on stage will depend on what kind of equipment I'll be using (i.e., if I have to hold on to a saxophone and a guitar while singing, I may not be physically capable of doing a lot of movement). Either way, the tour will promote an active lifestyle and the music will be compelling.
I can't wait for you to hear this!

Risks and challenges
The majority of this project has been completed. All that needs to happen at this point is show-booking, CD-pressing, and sending out CD's to reviewers and radio stations (these three things I am estimating will cost $2300). Once the project is fully funded, I have simply to pay the appropriate parties and I will very quickly have compact discs ready to send out and a tour booked. I already have the tour van, and gas and repairs will in theory be taken care of by the small amount of money made on tour, and I will only put money towards gas from this fund if there is more than I need.
If you buy original artwork, there may be risk associated with sending it in the mail, since if it gets lost, it's the only copy. So if you are in the Seattle area, or on my tour route, I can bring it to you. If not, let me know and we can work something out.
People ordering songs: All songs will be sent to you via internet, and they will be unmastered. I retain copyright of the songs, but you can seriously do whatever you want with them, as long as it's not evil. Use them for an advertisement, or as a gift, or just for yourselves. Feel free to have it mastered, or make your own version of it. Just make sure to give me credit.
If a reward says "any JU album you want," I really mean it. You could get up to all six albums on CD if you really want them. I may have to come up with creative packaging in order to get that stuff to you, but I'll let you know when the campaign finishes exactly how it will be sent.
In case it's not clear in the "rewards" section, any sort of personal house show you pay for can only happen if I am in your town on tour, or if you live in my town, since this fund will not be enough to pay for any extra travel. I cannot afford to fly anywhere or drive very far off my route. My tour route will be between Seattle and Michigan. If you want a house show, please contact me to make sure it's possible. If it's not, I will happily write you a song. I reserve the right to turn down any shows if I feel "creeped out."
