Our Kickstarter campaign is a very important part of our efforts to support the Young Tradition Touring Group’s performance and cultural tour of metro New York and New Jersey in late April 2019. We have 30 days to reach our target, and won’t succeed without your help! There are some amazing rewards/premiums to select from…… a house concert, original tunes composed just for you by group leaders Pete Sutherland and Oliver Scanlon or Jeremiah McLane, posters with messages and signatures by everyone in the group, personalized videos by group members while traveling, limited edition ‘Friends and Neighbor’ CDs featuring musicians who have supported the Touring Group in its travels, and the Young Tradition Vermont instrument case/bumper sticker. Hope you enjoy the inspiring video produced by group member Gaelen Kilburn and his friends, and that you’ll share our story with friends, family, neighbors, organizations, business and others you think would/should be interested.
Risks and challenges
Being a member of the Touring Group is a major commitment…… it is not just about the trip in April….. it is designed to be a high level ensemble that rehearses intensively, performs in concerts, at dances, during festivals, and sometimes on radio and television, and does a performance tour ……. the group consists of older members who are able to perform solo, in small duos and trios, and as contributing members of the full ensemble, and younger members who will transition to older teen members in the future. Each of the older members mentor and support younger members, and all members help host young musicians when they visit us in Vermont.
There are several reasons why this group exists. The members are good enough…. they passed an audition…. others did not. They are good learners….. they work hard on the material. They are good team players…… they support each other and aren’t involved for selfish reasons. They have made this group a priority….. every single person could be spending their time doing many other important and valuable things….. some drive many hours to attend rehearsals and performances, and many hours back home again. Everyone has an astounding support system that allows them to take part…… lessons…. instruments…. instructors….. friends….. organizations like Young Tradition Vermont….. families and friends who love and support them. Everyone is fun to be around….. everyone is respectful of what we know about each other, and the level fun has increased as we have worked and learned. As Steve Muise from the Franklin County Fiddlers from Maine might say, ‘everyone in this group is awesome’….. for those and many other reasons.
We embrace the risks and challenges in making the Touring Group a project that is successful enough so that we can stretch the support system wider and deeper to include young folks who would benefit from and enjoy it just as much as those involved now. We’re only getting started….. the focus, the resources, the time will intensify in the coming days and weeks, before this version of the Touring Group ends in early May 2019 at the annual Young Tradition Festival in Burlington. There are things that will make or break our commitment to this project….. everyone’s continued dedication of time and focus is one! We need to raise money with the Kickstarter campaign to make the trip happen…… we need your help, now, to make it work financially. We have enough to get us to New York now….. but we are still working on what it will take to get everyone back home gain!
