Big Wheel Provisions is a catering and provisions company in Orlando, Florida (www.bigwheelprovisions.com). We produce handmade foods in small batches, using local ingredients, creating relationships with farmers and other food artisans who supply us. We want the food of Orlando and the surrounding communities to go away from the current chain-heavy lineup full of commodity grown and produced foods, and move towards more independent food businesses which will feature ingredients by local farms (which have been featured on our blog at www.bigwheelprovisions.com/blog).
How does the food truck fit in? Well, it allows Big Wheel to now put local food into the hands of those in and around Orlando at least 6 days a week. Being both downtown during weekdays and late-nights, and at various farmers markets throughout the week, Big Wheel is ready to make a local food as amazing as it deserves to be each and every day.
The truck is purchased, and is currently going through the improvements that the truck needs. Improvements include:
- Installing Exhaust and Fire Suppression System which meet current Florida Code - New Paint Job and Design - Replacing Propane Canister to meet Florida Code - Installation of exterior lights for service area - General cosmetic improvements
Kickstarter money will be used for these improvements, both the design and materials. Big Wheel will be using independent artisan businesses owned locally for all work to be done to the truck.
What happens if we raise more than our initial goal? That money will be used to continue to promote Big Wheel's mission by paying for promotional material, fees associated with being present at festivals which are in celebration of local products and food, as well as helping recoup some of the costs associated with the Kickstarter platform.
At Big Wheel, we believe in local food. We believe in simple cooking. And we believe that Orlando is ready to support local farmers and food artisans, not just on special occasions or when trying to impress, but every day. This project's entire aim is to expose people to the opposite of the current norm in Orlando, commodity mass produced food, shifting the paradigm instead to focus on fresh foods, prepared simply, with creative ingenuity, locavore sourcing, and a passion for change. We think that these should all be an option no matter if you are on your lunch break, at a festival with your family, or downtown late at night. And with your help, we will make that happen.
