THE HORROR LOVERS is a love-letter to the types of slapstick movies, humor comics and grade-B horror movies we loved as a child: the frenetic antics of the Marx Brothers, beloved and bizarre 1950s MAD parodies by Harvey Kurtzman and Bill Elder, preposterous and brilliant creature-features by Roger Corman and Ed Wood.
All with the do-it-yourself passion and drive of the quirky black-and-white independent comics we admired so much as we were growing in this craft.
We are turning to Kickstarter to help fund our dream: the 32-page first issue, which will be available in both paper and digital formats.
HORROR LOVERS: AN ALL-STAR AFFAIR!
The first issue will feature:
* An Introduction by Craig Yoe (the editor/curator of "Haunted Horror" and "Popeye" for IDW/Yoe Books)
* Pinups by Paul Gulacy, Dan Parent, Fred Hembeck, Dennis Calero and Paul Taylor
Additional Rewards include!
* Kickstarter Exclusive Cover by Kevin Colden (offered in incentives)
* Steamy HOT TUB poster print by Bobby Timony! Pictured above.
* Antique tin metal signs, perfect for your garage or living room, featuring the cover tot the book!
* Signed copies! PDFs! And More!
And our modest stretch goal will produce a SECOND issue of HORROR LOVERS for early 2015, featuring pinups by Dan Goldman, Josh Bayer, Andrew Pepoy, and more!
We chose Kickstarter for THE HORROR LOVERS because we wanted to bring this labor of (horror) love directly to the people who would enjoy it the most. Our friends and fans have tirelessly supported us over the years and kept us on-track in an industry fabulously riddled with hills and valleys...and we appreciate every one of them (the friends and fans, that is...yeah, and some of the hills too)!
(Please note: THE HORROR LOVERS is suggested for ages 17+)
Meet mild-mannered TERRY APRILLE:
Terry always dreamt of writing The Great American Novel...but instead found himself hacking out horror scripts for the ultra low-budget BLOODY HELL STUDIOS alongside the crude-but-determined owner/director WALTER BURNS...
...and the always-smiling mute prop girl ZIPPY:
But one day Terry's fiancée DEBBIE gives him an ultimatum: quit wasting his time at the movie studio, or risk everyone finding out about his DEEPEST, DARKEST SECRET!
But when somebody ends up dead at the bottom of a giant cake, EVERYONE'S a suspect!

Risks and challenges
We have learned a lot from participating in, and observing, other Kickstarter comic book projects, and are hoping to keep risks to a minimum with a relatively simple first Kickstarter project & low initial funding request.
If we exceed our initial asking amount & go into stretch goals, that would be icing on the cake for us—but basically we just want to finish this comic and get it out to fans!
Risks include possible issues with shipping, unforeseeable events that might delay completion of the book (artist gets sick, computer breaks down, etc.). But we really tried to "bake in" fixes to possible delays, possible postage snafus, and other unlikely but always possible hiccups into our overall Kickstarter game-plan.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
