Off by a day!
Hooray! We're just about to send the last of the May vases to the 3D printer. And they should ship out on Monday. I guess that's not exactly May. Off by one day. But pretty close!
So if you signed up for a May vase and you haven't received your fahz by next Saturday (or the following Saturday, for international backers), give us a shout at email@example.com. We'll track down your vase for you. And if you haven't uploaded your photos yet, don't worry, we'll make your fahz whenever we receive them.
May was a roller coaster of a month here at fahz HQ! We started with a mad scramble to get all of the Mother's Day vases out the door in time (we did, yay!), only to find that post office has had a rather dismal batting average for getting the vases where they're meant to go (boo). We're still feeling the sting of discovering that a couple of vases were so delayed by the USPS that they didn't arrive in time to surprise mom. We did our best to get customized renderings to everyone who requested, but we know it's not like the real thing. Sorry.
But after getting that first round of vases out the door it was on to the mad scramble to prepare an exhibit after being selected to take part in BKLYN DESIGNS! We had our trusty fahz-o-matic printer at the show to demonstrate just how the photos are transformed into a fahz. It was an exhausting weekend but so incredibly rewarding and fun to see people see the faces in the vases for the first time.
That very same weekend, we made our first steps towards getting our online store up off the ground. It's pretty bare bones right now, but it's got everything you need to upload your photos and order your fahz. And for all of you who HATED the upload experience the first time around (it's all right, we're friends, you can be honest), you'll be happy to know that experience has been greatly improved.
So if you love your fahz and would like order another, just go to www.fahzface.com. And please tell your family and friends! We started this whole thing on a lark, but it's been so much fun. We'd love to keep making vases for awesome people like you. And if you're still waiting for your Extended Run vase, don't worry. We still love our Kickstarter backers most of all and getting those vases our as soon as possible is our first priority.
After recovering from the show, Nick went right back to work tweaking and refining the program so that we can fit even more faces in vases. Although I've told him many times that the sixteen-face vase is impossible, he won't give up. It's become like his White Whale. Just this morning he was going on about something called a "simulated annealing algorithm" that apparently will make it possible. He seemed pretty excited. We'll see.
And so now on to printing the extended run vases! We had originally expected ship the last ones in September, but now that we've worked out most of the bugs and purchased a second 3D printer, production has really picked up speed. We'll be sending them out as they're ready, so if everything goes well we think we can get all our Kickstarter fahzfriends their own personlized vase by June or July!
Twice the feehz, twice the fun.
