About this project
Third Ion is a brand new band featuring former members of Devin Townsend Band and Into Eternity, along with Canadian singer/songwriter solo artist Tyler Gilbert and drummer Aaron Edgar (of Drums Etc. magazine, and youtube fame).
Aaron Edgar - Drums
Mike Young - Bass
Tyler Gilbert - Vocals
Justin Bender - Guitar
The band has been described as Alice in Chains meets Dream Theater, even a bit of Queens of the Stone Age or Tool. Largely progressive music influenced, with a ton of crazy time signature and technical parts, but also super grooves and memorable choruses.
We are all experience, full time working musicians, and are capable of doing a LOT of the work on our own. However, some of the bulk expenses involved in releasing an album, and hitting the road, are still just too far beyond our reach without record label support.
Basically - we need help to "launch" the band. We have gigs booked in Winnipeg, MB (Sept 11th), Regina, SK (Sept 12th) and Vancouver, BC (Sept 17th), and a record just about ready to be pressed - as well as a few more tour dates to fill in that gap (we will keep you posted on here!!)
We also need to book some more studio time at Blue Door Recording to finish tracking vocals and mixing - also to continue with more songs for the NEXT album (we don't sleep). If we can surpass our fundraising goal, we are going to try to raise enough to cover this, and put towards the next record.
Here is a rough breakdown of some of the (rising) costs involved in finishing what we have started.
CD duplication - $2000
Vinyl duplication - $2000
Tshirt printing (for rewards and tour merch) - $1400
Artwork - $1000
TOTAL $6400 (+kickstarter fees and credit card fees of up to $650)
We have SO much to do! Here are some extra things we will try to cover if we go past our funding goal!
Studio Time - $2000
Van rental - $1500
Fuel for tour - $1000
Extra small merch items - $1000
Sound Tech for tour - $1500
And now for some fun pictures and video, relating to the rewards and the band!
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge with fulling doing what we want is cash-flow. We are all long time experienced, full time musicians - so we know we can confidently get this done.
We plan to have 3 songs online by the time we do our short tour in September, and after that we will release the full album and deliver on all the rewards in this program by December of this year, with some materials delivered in January 2015. Barring any major setbacks of course, but we are confident in this timeline.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
