Season 4 begins! Radiotopia is here!
Season four of 99% Invisible begins with the story of two architects, William Van Alen and Craig Severance. They started out as best friends, but became bitter rivals as they battled for supremacy of the New York City skyline. Episode #100 "Higher and Higher" is live.
Please share the new episode with your friends. Thank you for making it possible.
Also, we're so excited to announce the launch of Radiotopia. We hinted at this project during the Kickstarter campaign and it's finally a reality. Radiotopia from PRX is a collective of the best story-driven audio shows on the planet. In addition to 99% Invisible, our roster includes:
Love + Radio - In-depth, otherworldly-produced interviews with an eclectic range of subjects, from the seedy to the sublime. You’ve never heard anything like it before. If HBO made radio shows, it would sound like this.
Benjamen Walker’s Theory of Everything - Walker produces a strange “radio show about connections.” It’s journalism, fiction, and conspiracy theory all rolled into one. The first 5 minutes of this episode is one of my favorite things ever.
Strangers - Lea Thau is a Peabody Award winning producer who used to run The Moth, but broke out on her own so she could create more stories herself. It’s "about the strangers we meet, the strangers we become, and the 'strangeness' we might overcome when we find ways to connect in the modern world.”
The Truth - Jonathan Mitchell is reviving radio drama using a modern radio storytelling sensibility. The show is brilliant and beloved all over the world. Their “movies for your ears” have been featured on This American Life, Studio 360 and a bunch of other places.
Fugitive Waves - From powerhouse producers, The Kitchen Sisters (Lost & Found Sound, Hidden Kitchens, The Hidden World of Girls) this new show mines the Sisters’ deep archive of stories, lost recordings and shards of sound, along with new tales from remarkable people around the world. They are stories from the flip side of history.
Radio Diaries - Extraordinary stories of ordinary life, Radio Diaries offers first-person diaries, sound portraits and historical documentaries from award-winning producer Joe Richman and his team. We featured one of their great stories "The View from the 79th Floor" on episode #99 of 99% Invisible.
In addition to being the sponsor of the $20,000 challenge grant during the Kickstarter, MailChimp is the founding sponsor of Radiotopia. They are a force for good in this world and I'm so glad we could get together with PRX and help create the future of radio.
All right, I'll let you go. You have a lot of listening to do!
