We are lucky to have a company entirely based on a mission. Better health builds a stronger society. Most packaged food is junk food, but we make packaged food that's delicious and good for you (not just better for you). The Tarahumara were a major inspiration when we started this company. Not just their athleticism, but their joy in movement and living close to the land. It is an honor to be able to help them out now and do so in a manner that does justice to our company and their culture.
Depends on which award you select. For the Chia Bars specifically, all profits (~50%) will go back into resurrecting more Tarahumara farms. The program is simple. The dollars go to labor for clearing weeds, organic fertilizer for restoring soil, planting, growing, basic irrigation equipment, and harvesting.
Yes! We will use some of the Tarahumara seeds in the first run of these bars. We want the Tarahumara to keep some for seed stock as well, so they will be supplemented with our normal high quality supply.
We have not formal relationship with Harvard, but the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Dr. Daniel Lieberman and his team have been an awesome help as we figured out the best way to really help the Tarahumara.
