Thank you, everyone! This whole campaign has been amazing. And none of it would have been possible without you! I'll talk with you all soon, via backers only updates about the film's progress... But for now, again, thank you, for making something strange come to life.
Throughout this campaign, there have been some obvious "big" names that have gotten people excited. But this project has never been about that. This campaign is about a band of artists and supporters of the arts getting together to make something truly smart, and weird, and exactly-what-we-want. No compromises.
And one of those many people joining our project, who is easily one of the most talented people I've met in a long time, is 16 year-old Freya Trefonides from Chicago. You probably haven't heard of Freya, but I know you will.
GIANT SLOTH is her first voice acting in a cartoon, and my short film Daniel in the Factory was one of her first films, but I'm sure these productions are just the start for her. And I'm so glad we can make this thing and give someone like her a well-deserved chance to shine.
Not that Freya doesn't make her own chances to shine: she's co-written and produced plays with a theatre company that she and her teenage friends created and run together and she was just selected for the Chicago Youth Shakespeare Company. Oh, and just take a minute to listen to her play and sing. Wow:
So, yes, we have some crazy amazing people who have been in giant films and television show. But the point is: it's a whole group of crazy amazing people. And we think you're pretty amazing for coming along with us and believing in this thing we're making.
We've got a couple hours left! Share this story. Share the campaign. Let's make great art, great stories, great worlds together. Nobody can stop us. Freya's proof of that. You're all proof of that.
With a head full of hope and thanks,
THERE ARE ONLY 3 HOURS LEFT OF THIS CAMPAIGN! And I've got a big announcement: I've received a TON of messages about the Giant Sloth toy (above). And I hear you: I really want to see this thing in the real world. So after some number crunching, I've reduced the goal for the figurine from $45,000 to $40,000! WHAT? YES.
If we can raise $5,828 more before this campaign ends, then the figurine will go out to everyone at or above $100! PLUS it will be added as a new reward to be ordered.
Maybe that sounds crazy, raising that much in such a short amount of time. But to put this in perspective: if everyone who has backed this campaign raised their pledge by only $12.40, we would make that goal instantly. That's the power of having so many of you be a part of this.
So if you're able, increase your pledge! You'll get more rewards (maybe up your pledge to get a t-shirt? or the limited edition hardbound book? or even be an exhibit in the film itself?) and move us closer to making this figurine pop into existence!
And keep spreading the word! We've got over a 1,000 shares on Facebook and it keeps growing by the minute!
A quick report from the field: we've started production on Giant Sloth! To work things out with actors' schedules and frankly, because we're all super excited to get to work, I traveled to New York at the beginning of this week to record Paul Giamatti and Kate McKinnon with our sound guru PK Hooker.
We also started shooting our "making of" featurette, as well as interviews with the actors. Here are a couple stills from those interviews:
TRUST ME, WE ALL WANT TO REACH THAT ANIMATED BLOOPER STRETCH GOAL! The amount of gold generated just from these two actors could fill another entire film! Let's preserve some of it with an animated blooper short. We're almost there!
Consider increasing your pledge, as most of these rewards won't be available after the campaign's over. And spread the word to people: if they want to see Giant Sloth, they need to back it!
Thanks, everybody! I'm excited to see where we can take the campaign in these last couple days!
Intense thumbs up,
