About this project
The words convenience store in urban areas typically bring to mind dusty shelves, cramped aisles, and an unhelpful register jockey who watches, but rarely engages with customers. This has become the norm.
What The Boxcar Grocer brings to a community that has been ignored by traditional retailers is attention and a chance to build something new. A new chance at life. A new perspective. A new understanding. A new sense of pride.
We sell only the best foods including high-quality, all natural GA produce as well as respected national brands like Dr. Bronner's soaps.
People see the care that we put into this place and the time we take to talk about the store and know immediately that we respect them. And it makes them want to come back. Even though it’s not perfect. Even though we feel like there are a million things that we still have to do. Even though we have months of work to do before we will have a sense of completion around our vision. We are committed to making food access a reality by building at least 3 new Boxcar Grocers by 2014 in food deserts.
This is our first time using crowdfunding. The funds we raise from Kickstarter will be used to jump start our Pop Food program, an innovative farmer's market style food court located inside our store, create marketing materials to get the word out to our community, buy additional inventory that has been requested of our patrons (including starting a supplements program), expand our kitchen to enable our prepared foods department to grow beyond just sandwiches, and purchase refrigerated produce merchandisers to support our growing customer demand for fresh produce and CSA box drop-off.
Excess money we raise will be used towards funding our next locations. All Aboard!! The Boxcar Grocer. En route to a corner near you!
