About

Cards! Dice! Terror! Players take on the roles of Gangsters, Students, and Scholars trapped in the decrepit village of Innsmouth. Lurking in the town's shadows are evil townsfolk, cultists, and inhuman deep ones - a traitor may even be lurking in their own party... Terror awaits in this fast-paced and frightful tabletop boardgame that looks like a graphic novel and plays like a movie!

As an indie game creator, the support of the gaming community, friends, and family is needed to bring this game to life. Kickstarter offers a great way to bring us all together to create this unique game. For those unfamiliar with Kickstarter, supporting this project is simple: select one of the pledge levels in the right margin by clicking on it, then follow the prompts to complete your pledge. (Pledges are not processed unless our campaign meets its funding by the goal date, August 7, 2019.)

BUNDLES OF HORROR: Each Shuffling Horror title focuses on a specific time, place, and genre of horror. Our first release, Pittsburgh 68 (2012), is an homage to the classic zombie flick, Night of the Living Dead (which established Pittsburgh as the zombie capital of the world). Our second release, Roswell 51 (2017) is a mash-up of 1950s sci-fi space invasion flicks. For those of you who love these genres, we offer pledge levels that bundle the games at a special price.

And one final, crazy pledge level for die-hard Shuffling Horror fans!

Our goal is to deliver this game to you in the time promised–and this is an aggressive schedule. Stretch goals (below) are limited to those that will not cause production delays (none of us want that). Our manufacturer is based in the United States, which aids our ability to ship to you soon after the game is done!

FIRST BACKER BONUSES : We are nesting in some fun rewards for backers who pledge early on. First Backer Bonuses are based on when you back the project (and separate from our Stretch Goals). The sooner you join, the more exclusive gifts you'll receive; for example, only the first 150 backers get that nifty Innsmouth Deep One pin!

THE MOVIE DECK

Key to the Shuffling Horror experience is the movie deck; this sixty-card deck holds all the characters, twists, turns, and terrors that await those trapped in Innsmouth – and it is loaded with great art by our amazing artists James Daly III and Wayne Miller.

To start the movie, the deck is shuffled and ten cards are dealt for the first reel (round) of the movie. As these cards are played they confront players with terrible risks, plot twists, and the monstrous forces lurking in the shadows. Terror mounts with each successive reel!

THE MOVIE SCREEN

During each reel, three cards are played face-up on the central movie screen. This evocative card layout guides players for the placement of the The Reel deck, The Survivors deck, The Discards deck, and the off-screen Sanctuaries. Perimeter token buttons track each player's Survivor Points.

Note: the Roswell 51 box set includes the Shuffling Horror Shuffle Board, a 20” x 30” game board designed for use with all current (and future) releases. We are exploring production of a vinyl mat version of this board, which may be available as an add-on after the campaign ends.

THE TOKENS

Innsmouth 32 is jam-packed with tokens. There are two token types, Character and Director. Character tokens include Survivor Points (hearts), Mythos (keys), and Insanity (brain). Director tokens are for special effects and tracking: Sanctuary (locks), Props (Flask and Deep Ones), a You're Next placeholder, a Fade Out effect marker, and Reel Cans (with card count reminders).

Fast-paced and action-packed, the Shuffling Horror system immerses players into a horror movie. One player is The Director who controls the flow of the movie and the monsters. All other players control the movie’s characters. As a group, players try to survive four reels (rounds). Players must play smart and take chances to make it out alive! The Shuffling Horror system has several unique twists that fans love:

· Players never disengage! Like a horror movie, each player is vested in the success and failure of the other players' actions. Plus, players can be sucked right back into the action at the turn of any card!

· No player elimination! If a player loses all their characters, they turn into a monster player, joining the Director's efforts against the remaining players!

· Join the game after it starts! Have friends that always show up late to game night? No problem! Introduce new characters as the action unfolds (just like in a movie).

· Playable with 13 players! A lower player count is best until the Director masters the art of dealing the reels. While the role of the Director requires a solid understanding of the rules and a flair for story-telling, other players need no prior gaming experience at all. None. Zippo. Zilch. A great fit for the casual gamer who shies away from rule-heavy games. It’s a simple as…

Each player controls the movie's characters. A character’s abilities are established by their stat scores (listed on the bottom of each card). For example, running away from a crowd of cultists requires a Speed test. To succeed, a player rolls a pair of six-sided dice; the result must be less than or equal to their Speed score. Rolling higher is a failure - dread consequences await.

Players start with survivor points (spoints) which represent the characters’ determination, health, skill, and luck. This versatile resource can be spent to negate damage from attacks, increase a stat score, or increase damage. Tension in the movie mounts as players run low on spoints.

To bring the game that full Lovecraftian vibe, two new features have been added to the Shuffling Horror system: Mythos and Insanity. Mythos are obtained by characters via items or investigation and gives them the power to banish monsters. Characters may also gain Insanity during encounters with powerful creatures (such as the shoggoth). The more Insanity a character gains, the more unstable they become.

For those of you who want to dive deeper into the rules, here’s a link to the Roswell 51 rulebook (the core rules are the same as those for Innsmouth 32). Enjoy these, while we finish the I32 rulebook!

We cannot wait to start unlocking these stretch goals! The first five will allow us to add new content to the Movie Deck (like more great monster art). As each is unlocked, we'll reveal new horrors that await in Innsmouth 32! We have some very exciting backer exclusives planned, too.

Our Shuffling Horror game has been building its fan base with each release. We are still very much an indie fringe endeavor, playing games with our friends and fans at geek gatherings and conventions we attend (Gen Con, Origins Game Fair, GaryCon, and Pax Unplugged). Likewise, the reviews we have received come mostly from those who discovered us at these conventions. We have compiled many reviews here: The Shuffling Horror Reviews.

A recent BoardGameGeek interview with Larry at Origins Game Fairs (June 2019) and a sneak peek at Innsmouth 32 play.

The Undead Viking takes you on a tour of Innsmouth and gives a great overview of what to expect with our Shuffling Horror line, with focus on the thematic and story-telling fun that awaits! One of the best lines, for those who are familiar with the prior releases, is that Innsmouth 32 is like getting into a "warm bath". Thanks, Lance!

Peter G. over at the Esoteric Order of Gamers in New Zealand featured Innsmouth 32 on his Action Points video series. With a name like Esoteric Order, you know he knows a thing or two about Innsmouth... Lots of great vids over at the Esoteric Order YouTube channel out, so check it all out while you're there.

Michael Wright, the Unfiltered Gamer, gives a fast-paced and fun overview of our Shuffling Horror trio, with an overview of Innsmouth 32 play. He totally digs the story-telling aspect of the game. Check it out!

Logan Chops Reviews did an excellent kickstarter preview video, covering the basics of play and sneak peeks at the art. A succinct and well-paced preview!

A great review by Lynn on the Board Game Kaptain channel. Lynn discovered Roswell 51 event at Gen Con (before the game was released); the next year she picked up a copy. The review below is Lynn's Top Ten Horror games, Roswell 51 not only made the list but took the #1 slot. Thanks, Lynn!

The Board Game Kaptain and Lynn have also reviewed Roswell 51 and our R51 expansion pack, Santa Vs. The Space Invaders (find that great review here).

Lastly, here's one cheesy guy who knows a thing or two about shuffling the horror...

Larry Wickman, Game Designer. Born and raised in the not-so-wilds of weird New Jersey, Larry's love of fantasy and horror took hold at an early age. His journey to game design started in high school by way of the Basic Dungeons & Dragons box set; his passion for this game spawned his offbeat WEGS Old Skool Fantasy rpg (self published in 2007). He then got bit by the gaming convention bug, and has been con-hopping ever since. Shuffling Horror is the culmination of his love for old horror flicks, weird tales, and dice chucking. Larry is truly amazed by the great team members of this project, who followed him down the dark path to Innsmouth.

Ben Crenshaw, Graphic Design. Ben grew up on the East Coast and now hails from the mountains of Southwest Virginia. He works in a wide range of disciplines that involve design, fine art, graphics, and crafts. His work in the gaming industry began at his own Bent Castle Workshops which produced the card games Numbers Leagues and Skallywaggs, and also a series of deluxe playing card decks (Pegleg Pete's, Deck of the Living Dead, Pippoglyph, and others). In addition to Shuffling Horror: Roswell 51, Ben was involved with the graphic design of 4 the Birds boardgame.

James M. Daly III, Cover, Character, and Monster illustrations. James lives in beautiful San Diego, where he draws monsters and robots in his spare time. He has been working as an artist in comics and illustration for more than 25 years. His work has been published by Marvel, DC, and Storm King Comics, among others, notably the sci-fi horror comic series Bad Planet from Image Comics. In the world of tabletop gaming, James provided illustrations for several White Wolf Games' Vampire and Werewolf books, and most recently the illustrations for Chuck D. Yager's Rise of Cthulhu.

M. Wayne Miller, Item illustrations. Wayne hails from North Carolina; whether he's working with a team or individually, he enjoys handling art projects from inception to completion. His attention to detail is well-tuned (just check out those Innsmouth item cards) and he enjoys the challenge of learning new methods and processes. He provided all the great art on the Shuffling Horror holiday pack, Santa Vs. The Space Invaders. He's also the cover artist for Chaosium's Terror Australis, as well as interior illustrations for Modiphius's Star Trek line.

A quick shout-out to our Favorite Little Game Shops and retail friends... Have we got a deal for you! We love getting our games onto your shelves and this is the best chance of that happening (we're not in distribution). Contact us via email if you are interested and we will give you specifics on how you can get your hands on our creepy offerings! Email: |wick |at| gamewick.com|

Shipping costs will be charged after the Kickstarter concludes via our pledge manager. Shipping is never “one size fits all”, and this allows us to be fair and flexible to each backer based on their shipping location. We plan to keep the shipping costs as friendly as possible; in this regard, if any backer has an issue with their billed shipping amount, they may ask for their pledge refunded before we ship their reward. See Terms & Conditions below.

Rewards to all USA backers ship from our New Jersey location. Rewards to Canada ship from our Canadian partners. Rewards to the EU ship from Germany (Happyshops). The following is a list of rough estimates for shipping a single copy of Innsmouth 32; bundles will increase the size/weight/cost for shipping accordingly.

· PICK-UP at a convention or local game night we attend: $0.

· USA: $10 - $20 to most states. Alaska and Hawaii: $18 - $30 to most areas.

· CANADA: $15 - $30.

· EUROPE: EU & UK: $15 - $30 for most countries.

· AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND: $50 via USPS. (Note: we are attempting to find an AU/NZ shipping partner in order to offer custom-friendly shipping to these countries).

If your country is not listed, please contact us directly and we will explore shipping expenses with you. For the launch of this campaign, we have included only countries that we have shipped to in the past and those covered by our selected shipping partners.

Terms & Conditions

• By pledging to this Kickstarter, you acknowledge that this is a work-in-progress and the final reward specifications and timeline could be subject to change due to circumstances beyond our control.  You also agree that, after this campaign ends, our responsibility is to ship your pledge reward to you after we have received payment for your shipping. A refund is available up to 14 days after this Kickstarter ends; otherwise, a refund is as per our discretion and subject to handling/processing fees.

• You are responsible for entering and confirming the address we ship to is correct (we cannot ship to PO boxes). You also accept that you are fully liable for incorrect shipping details and will risk your pledge being undeliverable or lost in transit.

• By pledging, you acknowledge that we will have to forward your shipping data to selected partners, for the sole purpose of shipping your rewards. These partners only receive the shipping and order information specific to their region (the EU fulfillment company only receives EU backer shipping info). For shipping to all USA backers, we use both UPS and USPS.

• For the rewards you receive, you are responsible for import or other duties that may be payable to relevant tax authorities if they are not covered via the providers we have selected.

If you do not accept the terms noted above, please do not pledge on this project, but, instead wait for this game’s general release. Thank you!

Risks and challenges

I am excited to deliver to you the third and most terrifying game in the Shuffling Horror line - it really delivers the thrills and chills! The game has been in development for over two years now, which included a full year of playtests in 2017 and a full year of actual play in 2018.

My goal is to deliver a high quality game that we all can be proud of; I will do everything in my power to deliver this in the time promised. My first successful campaign, Shuffling Horror: Roswell 51, shipped out to over 200 backers and ten countries. This game will be manufactured in the USA by the same company who delivered the first two Shuffling Horror games, Pittsburgh 68 and Roswell 51.

At the launch of this project, all artwork, design, and layout is finished for the card deck, tokens, and box components. The rule book draft is underway. I know that unforeseen issues can arise in any phase, and I promise to do everything I can to meet your expectations or exceed them.

If things go amiss with our schedule, I won't blame it on the Great Old Ones (unless they really are to blame, in which case we’re all in trouble). You will know what’s up with GameWick every step of our journey.
