So glad that you made it here. Behold the Kickstarter platform and our newest creation:
This album is the result of an imaginary encounter between the "Son de los Diablos" tradition that dates back to Colonial times in Peru... and the streets of South Brooklyn.
Specifically, the Coney Island neighborhood in the summer features neighbors that carry their cookout equipment and big speakers onto the street... Gabriel heard bass lines everywhere and these turned into the four movement "Brooklyn Suite." The staging of the work includes four dancers who attempt to "convert" the unsuspecting musicians...
The Afro-Peruvian Sextet wants to continue to develop a sustainable independent business model. Our idea is straight forward and has been working for the past 12 years: Replacing the concept of working for a "label" by funding our own work directly through you, a loving and caring member of our fan base. You are our fuel and our reason for being!
You'll notice on this release we are back to our own label Saponegro. We are happily partnering with Kickstarter to securely request financial contributions from you. They are called "pledges." Pledges can be large, medium or small. In exchange for your pledge, you receive a gift. Gifts vary according to the amount of your pledge. Small pledge = small gift. Large pledge = large gift.
Regardless of the pledge amount, you will join the Afro-Peruvian Sextet's family. We will be in touch with you every step of the way and use your input to inspire us. We can't tell you how vital and important this really is!
Our first action will be to fund the professional release of our new CD "Diablo en Brooklyn." With your pledge you will personally become involved as the catalyst that presents Afro-Peruvian jazz music to the world! Thanks to you our CD will be heard in over 100 stations in North America and Peru... and we will be covered in newspapers and magazines in support of this new work. Most notably, the work for Sextet and four dancers traveling all the way from Lima will be premiered in New York City on October 21 and 22.
We look forward to welcoming you to our family.
Please note that an important part of the Kickstarter concept is that your credit card will only be charged if we make our minimum goal of $5,000. So with your help we are going "all in" on this project! If we don't make it we don't get any of the funding already pledged... so we hope you'll participate and help spread the good word about Afro-Peruvian jazz music.
Please feel free to write with any questions, comments or concerns.

PS - Curious? We will be posting some audio samples and video as we move forward with the campaign...
Risks and challenges
This particular Kickstarter effort comes leading up to the premier of Diablo en Brooklyn. This means that we will be sending out all rewards in the month of November right after the official release.
From pledge to finish it will be a very fast process, and a time-based challenge. Very different than previous campaigns.
Look for frequent updates during this process as a way to keep everyone in the loop.
We will also be receiving offline contributions from folks interested in the Associate and Executive Producer levels, especially in case tax deduction is of interest. This will add a layer of challenge to the accounting process but we have a very solid partner in Cubanola Arts Collective to process these contributions.
All told... we are READY!
Thank you for your support!
