About this project
GMO's: A Quick and Dirty Guide is going to be a print paperback and digital ebook with fast,
easily understood and "digestible" information on any question you may
have about GMO's.
GMO's: A Quick and Dirty Guide is arranged in a Q&A format. You can go right to your own questions in the table of contents, and from there directly to the answers you need.
Are GMO’s safe? What I have learned is that sometimes the answer is yes. Sometimes it’s no. Sometimes the jury is still out. Sometimes the answer will always be relative to the observer, like in quantum physics. There’s also a lot of honest confusion about what GMO’s are
and how they affect our lives.
I shouldn’t have to be a scientist to have access to
authentic information. YOU shouldn’t
have to be a scientist to be privy to authentic, accurate information. We all deserve to know the answers. When it comes to our food supply, we all
deserve, as individuals, as communities, as nations, to know the authentic
answers—to have fast and immediate access to accurate information.
At a Christmas party this winter, I was talking with the founder of an urban farm in Tucson, Arizona. She asked me how GMO's are created and when I gave her my speedy two-minute version, she said, "Wow, I listened to every word you just said but my head is spinning. When you get published can I have a copy? My staff and I are asked these questions all the time at the farm, and I think we need to understand more."
That's when I realized that
what people really want is a quick, short guide that answers all their
questions without a lot of frills and philosophy.
It's my goal to put together all these questions and answers in a book that's easy enough for a middle school class to read, but thorough enough to challenge readers who want to understand some of the complexities of farming economics and GMO's in our global village. At this point, I have almost 100 questions to answer!
You can read my Preamble and Introduction and view the complete Table of Contents on my culinary blog at rusticafood.com.

Risks and challenges
This project poses very few risks to my supporters. I have been a full time writer and social media manager for over 5 years, and I have produced other print and epub books for myself and clients.
I'm also a successful blogger and I'll be posting regular updates about the progress of GMO's: A Quick and Dirty Guide here on Kickstarter, on my Facebook wall, and on my food blog, RusticaFood.com.
The biggest challenge I face right now is the sheer amount of online research that I sift through. I'd say I discard about 90% of what I read as biased or containing errors. I'm also reaching out by phone and email to individuals I'd like to interview, or who are being obstructive with the truth--like getting the USDA to explain why their investigation into the Oregon wheat scandal has seen no progress in 9 months. But I know what I'm doing and I'm hunting down the facts like Captain Ahab on the trail of Moby Dick.
I appreciate your help and support, and I will keep you updated as the journey unfolds!
