It’s a whole new ball game!

Hey, Sports Fans!

Since it’s launch in 2012, DreadBall has been tremendously popular – all thanks to you guys. Which loads of great miniatures, leagues and players out there, the game has gone from strength to strength. For the past 4 years, all over the world thousands of coaches have taken to the pitch to play ball, win tournaments and claim trophies - or often to just bash their opponent’s heads in, forgetting about the ball and scoring strikes. Based on player feedback, we feel that it’s time for a change.

Over the years DreadBall has grown beyond the simple core game and 2 expansion teams we originally had planned! It developed into 6 season books, 25 teams, a cast of MVPs, a multi-player expansion, several stand alone expansions and a supporting range of accessories, pitches and giants. Two of those books and several teams are now out of stock and the range has become intimidating to new players and unbalanced as new teams have joined the game. With the core game going out of print and 4 years of community feedback under our belt, it’s time to tidy it all up and make it into something even better.

DreadBall is returning to Kickstarter Tomorrow, to bring in loads of new players and fund the 2nd Edition of the game. This will be focussed on rebalancing the Teams, streamlining the rules and layout and overhauling the league mechanics. Launching at 1:30pm BST on Friday 22nd July and running for just two weeks, the DreadBall Kickstarter is designed around one main pledge level that gets you:

DreadBall: The Futuristic Sports Game core set

It includes:

  • Core Rulebook: with everything you need to know to play plus League System and advanced rules for cheerleaders, coaches and more.
  • New Teams: the Draconis All-Stars robot team and Ninth Moon Tree Sharks Yndij team.
  • DreadBall Pitch: with new artwork and location zones for cards, action tokens, discard pile and an in-built scatter diagram (as requested by the community!) The hexes on the pitch are a little bigger at 28mm rather than 25mm to give some room for arms and tails.
  • Everything you need to play: Revised cards, counters, dice, redesigned roster pad, RefBot MKII and lots of newly redesigned DreadBalls.

The pledge level also includes:

  • DreadBall Team Guide: Containing all the rules, background and stats for every team, team captain and MVP.
  • DreadBall Ultimate: This expansions allows up to 6 players to play DreadBall at the same time and includes rules booklet, counters, and card deck. There’s even a newly artworked pitch design (mock-up ‘sketch’ below), included on the reverse side of the standard pitch. Now you’ll only need to carry one pitch around!

We like to include exclusives to our pledge levels to say thank you for backing the project and DreadBall comes with two from the off: Fergus, an offensive coach and Tracer, a Support coach.

Fergus comes from the spaceship yards of Plutos, where a Plutosian gets a thick skin and a loud voice or is never heard. Fergus takes that philosophy and applies it to the pitch. He plays to win by any means, and if a call goes against him then shouting at 150 decibels can’t hurt.

Once one of the G-Net’s most popular superstars, Tracer believes that once a team is on the pitch there is little they can’t do if encouraged appropriately. She whips up the crowd with skills learnt from the stage, starting chants so catchy even the other teams sometime join in, and drives her team onto greater feats of athleticism.

As you can see, both have very distinctive looks and will look great in any hobbyist’s collection.

The pledge level will be available for $100 and contains items worth over $150 MSRP from the start – and, should we break our funding goal, the pledge level will get even better value as we break stretch goals and throw in free stuff. We’ve had some great ideas from the community – from miniatures representing the Eye in the Sky to DreadBall’s own Commentary Team event card holder – that we hope to see become reality.

I hope that you’ll join us for a fun campaign. Thank you for your support!

The Walking Dead miniatures game

Hello! In case you haven’t seen we are running a new project for The Walking Dead: All Out War miniatures game. We thought we’d let you know in case you wanted to join us on another Kickstarter journey!

What is the Walker Dead miniatures game?

The Walking Dead: All Out War is the ultimate survival miniatures game. The characters, taken straight from the pages of The Walking Dead comic series, are pitted against each other in a bitter fight for supplies. You will lead a group of survivors, in a skirmish setting, trying to acquire precious loot…but beware the Walkers will react to your every move, and other groups want the same loot as you – and they do anything to get it!

We’ve launched The Walking Dead: All Out War miniatures game on Kickstarter to offer our hard core fans the chance to get cool exclusives and the opportunity to get the game ahead of the full retail launch in October.

The main pledge level – Something to Fear – is already worth over $175 at MSRP with more being added all the time. It includes:

  • The Walking Dead: All Out War miniatures game
  • The Walking Dead: Atlanta Camp expansion
  • Kickstarter Exclusive Sheriff’s Badge Initiative Badge
  • Collector’s Edition Box
  • Dice Bag and a second set of game
  • Stretch Rewards including Shane, Lori, Andrea, Amy, Reggie, plus their character cards, 2 Atlanta Walkers and 10 Supply Markers.
  • And more to come including 2 new unique Walkers and a Kickstarter Exclusive Michonne!

You can see everything included in Something to Fear here.

The more people who support the campaign, the more survivors like Glenn, Maggie and Tyreese, equipment and unique walkers will get added – making that basic pledge level even better value.

The open day will be rammed full of awesome demo games of every Mantic system including the beta version of Kings of War 2. As always you’ll get the opportunity to see behind the scenes and even enjoy one of Ronnie’s famous seminars!

Not only that, but the Mantic team will be there to answer all your questions. So what exactly do we have going on for DreadBall?

Well with the success of the DreadBall regionals we are using the same rules pack to host a tournament at the open day! Come down and get some tournament practice in before you regional to make sure the Blaine trophy will be yours. You can get your DreadBall tournament ticket from our website here.

If you have picked up any of Mantics games but aren’t too sure how to play them, the open day is a great way to take advantage of our experts, the Pathfinders, who will give you a mind blowing intro game and get you fully up to speed so that you can play your own games at home or at your local club.

DreadBall Xtreme Boxed Game Mock-up

Here’s a recap:

Season 5 Teams and MVPs – Unlocked!

The Brokkrs, Rebs, Sphyr and Crystallans are all unlocked. Like the Season 4 teams, they can be used in “Original” DreadBall as well:

All teams - except the Plague Mutants and Robots - come preassembled for you. Crystallan Team comes in translucent blue plastic.

New Giants!

The Sann-Gar, Forge Father Iron Ancestor are all ready to join in the fun!

New! Galactic Tour Series: DreadBall Challenge Cup!

Designed for both Original DreadBall and DreadBall Xtreme, the DreadBall Challenge Cup is a whole new way of playing leagues in DreadBall!

For the first time, you’ll be able to travel the stars and play games of DreadBall as part of a linked campaign. Teams will visit a series of unique locations across this region of space before engaging the opposition in the Galaxy's Greatest Sport – win and you claim the territory.

In a similar fashion to the Azure Forest pack, this set takes DreadBall in all kinds of fun directions as each location introduces new rules and abilities – whether it’s automated robot attacks in the Llo desert to radiation pulses that boost your players abilities on Visvera (or cripple them!)

As well as a Rulebook, a printed Hazard System Map, cards, and counters, the set also comes with four incredible MVPs (which are also available individually if you want them) – arguably the most exciting yet.

And finally...

The Kickstarter is truly packed full of an amazing amount of stuff and our Sweet Spot Rampage pledge is an unbelievable deal. Bursting with teams, MVPs and all sorts of digital goodness, Rampage is worth well over $350 at retail.

As a result of a promotion, we’ve got 25 Early Bird Rampages currently available so if you want to get it at an even greater discount, now is your chance!

We're nearly half way to our next stretch goal, and we're now under 150 backers away from unlocking our next Kickstarter Exclusive Backer Goal: an Xtreme Cheerleader Turn Counter! Free in pledges of Rage ($100) and up!

Thank you so much for reading and we hope that you'll join us for a new Kickstarter journey. We really do appreciate any support you can give us - and we hope what we're offering in return shows our appreciation :)
