Hi, we're Marateck. Thanks for visiting our Kickstarter.
Marateck is an instrumental rock band that deals in opposites and contradictions: minimalist vs. maximalist, consonance vs. dissonance, mechanistic vs. humanistic. The result is intense, emotional music played with obsessive, virtuosic precision.
"New York-based math-minimalist quartet channels more than any reasonable listener can handle, but in the most efficient way possible. On a self-titled EP released this summer, Marateck's stripped-down, articulate take on math-rock yields a sense of pointillistic perfection. They're adept at both creating a feeling of space and filling it up, shifting between atmospheric passages and bursts of brutal upheaval." - Emili Earhart, Tone Madison
The band is named after guitarist Jesse Kranzler's great-grandfather, Jacob Marateck, who was sentenced to death four times. In his life, Jacob stirred the pot and created dissonance in times of consonance and sought to create consonance in times of dissonance.
About Time Is Over:
Time Is Over is the result of over 2 years of writing, rewriting, rehearsing, and honing in on our sound as a band. It was commissioned, in part, by Roulette Intermedium and the Jerome Fund for New Music. This is our first cohesive statement as a band, but it is also a summary of everything this band has done up until this point.
The album was co-composed by guitarists Jesse Kranzler & Brendon Randall-Myers and features additional arrangements from bassist Tristan Kasten-Krause and drummer Mark Utley. The album includes the four songs from our trio EP reworked and re-imagined in a grander quartet setting plus four new songs that show where the band is moving.
The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Colin Marston (Gorguts, Krallice, Behold The Arctopus) at Menegroth: The Thousand Caves and features synth and keyboard performances from Jeremy Malvin (aka Chrome Sparks.) Album art and design will be done by John Robert Moore.
Where You Come In:
We recorded the album in the Summer of 2016, but need your help to put finishing touches on the album, the artwork, and manufacture a physical product for you to hang on your shelf.
We've put together a set of juicy rewards that we hope will whet your appetite and put you in the giving mood. If you don't have the means to donate but would like to support, please share this project with friends or family who might be interested. We want to get this album in as many people's hands as possible.
Risks and challenges
If we cannot fund this project, this album may not see the light of day. We are a fairly young band and do not have the means or the fan base to put this album out on our own yet. This music represents a very specific time and place for this band, so it is very important that we release the music in a timely manner.
We feel confident that, if funded, we will be able to release the album in time for a US tour in July. However, delays with our production plant and other elements outside of our control may impact our delivery date by a few weeks.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
