A cartoonish architectural installation and performance art in the Architecture Foundation in London, UK by Jimenez Lai
Please kick in some... We need your help! Time is slipping away!
Collect the originals! Every little bit helps – in exchange, a wide range of collectible work could be yours.
The Hefner/Beuys House is a midpoint between a building and furniture. An oversized furniture, or a building slightly too small. Micro-architecture / macro-furniture.
This project is a machine for living; somewhere between an installation and performance art. Jimenez Lai will live inside of the piece over the summer, and we are going to Youtube it.
Private vs. Public
Exposure vs. Concealment / Introvert vs. Extrovert - this project becomes a question about the framing of other worlds. A materialized comic book, a fairytale one can walk into.
A cartoonish mural on the wall behind this installation will tell a tale that the physical installation dialogues with.
All of the money raised will be used for the fabrication of the piece.
Two of the past project by Bureau Spectacular that are a part of the Super-Furniture Series include the Briefcase House and White Elephant (Privately Soft). The transformation of the practice from comics to installation can be witnessed in a very early coverage by archinect in 2006.
Hefner / Beuys
Two predecessors of performance artists, Joseph Beuys and Hugh Hefner, this project also asks - who is the real extrovert between the two? Hefner may be the obvious answer, but Beuys relocated himself out of his context to a stage-like environment whereas Hefner simply stayed in his mansion.
Lai has also spoken around the world, including this lecture on the genre of architectural installations in University of Michigan earlier in 2012.
The Architecture Foundation of London is a not-for-profit organization.
