Firegarden are a respected underground prog 'n' roll band from Sheffield, England. Around 2014/2015 we underwent a renaissance and have been kicking ass ever since. Our Choose Your Own Adventure album released in 2015 has sold well and received praise and we think it is very fine indeed. https://firegarden.bandcamp.com/album/choose-your-own-adventure
In 2017 we released the 1649 EP consisting of four songs. https://firegarden.bandcamp.com/album/1649
Since then the floodgates have opened and we've found ourselves drowning in great new material. This stuff is fresh, well-rehearsed and ripe for recording. It's come sooner than we ever expected and we know that it is time to record the next album.
What hasn't come as quickly as the songs is the finance to record. Usually we have a lead-in of a couple of years for our recording projects. Normally we build up a recording fund by playing shows and selling merch. This time we've only had about 9 months to do this and we haven't yet paid off the cost of the 1649 EP. We have no doubt that we will do, we're just moving more quickly than we anticipated.
We're going to fund the recording and publication of the album with personal loans from the members to the band. We're not made of money and the thought of going thousands of pounds in debt is scary.
This is why we want to ask you if you will pledge towards the new album in advance. We have lots of great friends out there who support what we do for which we are very grateful. We know that you will buy the album; would you very kindly consider giving us the money before it is recorded instead of afterwards? Thank you. You're great. Your continued support means so much to us and with your help we will be able to deliver an outstanding album.
Wow! We're almost at our initial target of £250 and it's only been a few hours since the project went live. We didn't know how successful this was going to be so we aimed low because we didn't want the kickstarter to fail. We always intented to announce some stretch goals but didn't expect them to come out so quickly.
£1000 Goal - 15 Minutes extra music
We said we had tons of great songs, right? We were going to focus on getting about and hour's worth down but if we manage to raise £1000 from the kickstarter we'll be in a position to fill the disc right up to as close to the maximum 74 minutes as we can.
Further Stretch Goals
As the kickstarter campaign progresses we'll add more goals if we manage to beat the £1000 mark. We can't say thank you enough. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
The risks for this project are very low.
The music is already written, rehearsed and gigged. There are some audience-filmed examples of the songs on youtube if you want to go detective and get a sneak peak. We think you will agree that this stuff is awesome.
The album artwork is already complete and paid for and can be seen all over this kickstarter. The artwork is by Jaime Raposo who has also agreed to do the layout work for the CD packaging once we know final details like the track order and list of backers. He is very professional and works well to deadlines.
The recording studio is booked (we are recording at The Old Pig Farm near Sheffield) and we have discussed our recording strategy with the engineer and know who needs to do what when.
Duplication or replication (depending on finance) of the CD, printing of the artwork and assembling into finished packages will be undertaken by a professional company. Our requirements are standard so this should be routine.
Between us we've done this loads of times before and we're not reinventing the wheel. We are highly driven and dedicated to seeing this through. I suppose one of us could break a leg or the studio might burn down but the project specific risks for this undertaking are slim.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
