Hey! Welcome to my 6th Kickstarter Project!
This one actually has two goals - One is to kickstart my two new books, Quo Vadis and ArtGenda. And the Second is to create a new Studio space.
Part One - The Books!
BEGIN AGAIN: Quo Vadis - "Where Are You Going?"
Two years ago (give or take a week) I did a Kickstarter for the original Quo Vadis book which was part of my BEGIN AGAIN comic magazine series. (Click HERE to see more details on the inspiration and original printing.) I drew a comic everyday, in a Quo Vadis brand planner book, for one year starting on August 1st, just before the start of my Senior Year at the Center for Cartoon Studies. This self-imposed challenge became part of my Thesis, so I was only able to include 7 months in the Thesis edition.
Despite the insanity of preparing my Thesis, finishing school, graduation, and moving back home... I continued to draw the daily comics until I had filled the planner.
It's taken me a year, but I have scanned, cleaned up, revised, added some extra explanatory comics - and printed a new COMPLETE edition of Quo Vadis - Where Are You Going? This one has the full year - from August to the end of July - and is closer in size and feel to the original planner and drawings.
After working in the planner for a year, I realized there were serious cons to using a standard type of planner - like having the lines going through my drawings, and no lines where I actually wanted to write... so... I designed my own planner...
ARTGENDA - Planner • Sketchbook • Journal
The first four pages have ideas and tips for how to use the book:
The fourth Info page has suggestions for lettering. There are a few pages with Dot-Grids for notes, sketches, or making an Index. And then the rest of the book is waiting for your thoughts and artistic expression!
Part Two - The Studio!
The title of my comic magazines is "BEGIN AGAIN" because that has become my slogan for my "life story". I just keep starting over! For years I ran a Creativity General Store and a Studio. After I graduated from Cartoon School, I started setting up a new Studio in Concord, NH - but Life happened and that studio got piled into a storage unit!
Now, I'd like to raise some funds to convert a part of my home back into the Studio that it was... egads!... more than 17 years ago!? The space is there, it just needs paint, new lighting, and a door (to separate it from the non-public part of the house).
In this revitalized studio space, I hope to have workshops, Open Studios, Art PlayDays, create and sell new comics, and build a new art tribe.
As I write this, I am recuperating from a messy hysterectomy and have been house-bound for a few months for various illnesses as well. Throughout the mental and physical pain and chaos, I have been making notes and sketches for comics I plan to draw about the experiences. And, in moments of clarity and insight, I realized two things - I need to find my Creative Tribe and I need to share my Experiences through Comics. The new Studio space would serve as home base for both.
Yeh, so... what do you get in return? Original Comic Art! YES!!
I LOVE to draw. Especially comics.
I will create a custom illustration for you in the same style as the Quo Vadis comics -- ballpoint pen -- with some of the adorable characters, such as my Demons, Puff-My-Inner-Bitch-Dragon, Self-Care heart, Minou the Cat, the Lilah Beans, etc.
I've listed two Rewards, each with a different level of customization and detail. In the image below, "BEGIN" is an example of an Original Drawing and "LILAH" is an example of a Custom Original Drawing.
If you choose the Original Drawing Reward - you tell me what you want the word to say. For example, READ!, BEGIN, BE CALM, INSPIRE, TEACH - or it can be a name - LILAH, MEG, DAD, LIZZIE, HARRY, (The) SMITHS... I will create a comic drawing, with your word/name, that looks similar to the first drawing (below).
If you want more choices and details, choose the Custom Original Drawing Reward. Again, you tell me the word/name that you would like illustrated, but you also can select the characters you want and any other preferences you have. I'll create letters to match your preferences... for example, in the sample above, I created playful letters to express Lilah's creativity and imagination - and turned part of her name into a jungle gym!
To clarify, here's another example: Let's say you are a librarian and want artwork to hang in your elementary school library... you could ask for the word "READ!" with some Lilah Beans. I would create the R-E-A-D letters made from books and stacks of books with Lilah Beans sitting on the stacks and reading other books. You could also tell me if there are particular titles you'd like on some of the books. Hmmm.... that sounds pretty cool - I may have to draw that one for myself!
And lastly, here are the three mini-prints that are included with some of the Rewards:
So there it is. Please back my Kickstarter Number Six so I can get these comics out into the world and then get to work on making some new ones! Thank you!
Let's get this campaign past the $1000 mark and I'll start adding in some extra goodies. For example, everyone will get this Manifesting mini-print:

Risks and challenges
The Quo Vadis comics and the ArtGenda sketchbook are finished and at the printers - ready and waiting for this Kickstarter to succeed. The Studio space and the Hysterectomy comic are dependent on raising enough money, above the $500 printing costs, to pay the current surgery bill and the renovation expenses. I've timed the Kickstarter to run while I am recovering. When it ends, I should be ready to jump in and pack up books and draw custom pictures! Yeh! Bring it on!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
