Emergy is a human-powered, interactive installation art project bridging sculpture, performance, media arts, architecture, mechanical and electrical engineering. At the nucleus of the installation is a 9ft mechanized rowboat that generates electricity to power LED backlit photos in the gallery. The created environment examines energy and water usage in an urban desert environment by contrasting human consumption with human expenditure. Community members row the boat to activate the installation for others.
Initially created for Phoenix, the installation will travel to Las Vegas with new photos of Las Vegas and Lake Mead. I need funding to replace the Phoenix photos with the Las Vegas photos so that the work is place specific, focusing on water and energy issues of the Las Vegas region. The funding will also cover the transport costs of the project to Las Vegas. The show opens December 3, 2010 through February 17, 2011.
