SATURN PLAYING CARDS
Saturns have surpassed my wildest expectations. Chris Severson, Franco Pascali, and I had a conversation about how long we thought it would take to get the Blue Saturns funded. I didn't think they would become popular, or that they would really be wanted, so I estimated that if they were to be funded, it would be in the last week of the Kickstarter. Chris thought they would be funded in two days, which seemed a ludicrous idea at the time. Franco guessed within two weeks which was a little more reasonable from my perspective.
I launched the Kickstarter and the anxiety kicked in. By the end of the second day, the Blue Saturns reached their $10,000 goal. It was a wake up call that these were cards people actually sought-after. During the 30 days, the project was also chosen to be a Kickstarter Staff Pick, and by the end of the month, we made over $19,000! Almost double our original goal. Today, Saturn Playing Cards are now in the hands of people all around the world (40 countries to be exact).
The current online retail prices go for $35+ and, I have heard tale of people selling them for $50 per deck!
As an art student, color is very important to me. People interpret colors in many different ways and in the card community, this can make or break a project. With this Fall season ending, I got to experience many different colors as the leaves changed. Taking inspiration from the different reds and yellows, I gave my Instagram followers the choice to pick the next color. In two days, 450 unique comments expressed what they wanted, and in the end, Red Saturns came out victorious.
QUALITY AND QUANTITY
We were ecstatic about how the originals turned out. For this release, we decided to change things up a bit and turned to the United States Playing Card Factory for the production of Red Saturns. Chris Severson and I have been messing with cards for close to ten years now, and as such, we have felt some of the best and worst cards to ever come out. To ensure that the Red Saturns are to our liking, we contacted the USPCC and have been granted special permission to oversee the production process. This means we are going to bring our knowledge on playing card handling to meet, and hopefully exceed the expectations of our community.
Our goal is to produce enough decks such everyone can enjoy them. If we surpass our $12,000 goal, we will print more to accommodate the demand. It would be amazing to get Red Saturns in the hands of people all over the world, allowing them to experience another quality deck of cards. With your help, we can achieve the $12,000 needed to make the next installment in the Saturn Playing Cards a reality.
THE PLAYING CARDS
As a Cardist, the way playing cards feel after being handled for long periods of time matters a lot to me. I want a deck of cards to be able to fan evenly, spring without too much tension, and break off nicely for packet cuts. That is why I have to decided to print on Crushed Bicycle Stock with Embossed Finish, perfect for long use and resiliency. Some of my favorite decks from the US Playing Card Factory, Fontaines and Tally-Ho's, are printed in a similar way.
THE BACK DESIGN
THE ACE AND JOKER
The Red Saturns will have a brand new Ace and Joker. Inspired by Futurism design, lines interact with bold geometric shapes in a simplistic and contemporary style.
When we first received the physical proofs for the Blue Saturns, we were surprised on how well the tuck case came out. It was simple, clean, sexy, and to the point. The box allows the cards to be the main focus. As a callback to the quality of the previous Saturns, we decided to keep a similar aesthetic. The grey Saturn logo and signature will be silver foil, a quality that made the previous box look amazing.
The Red Saturns will be fulfilled by the one and only, Art of Play. They are the fastest and most reliable playing card fulfillment service our community has to offer. Some of the perks include:
- Ships Global

Risks and challenges
This project has fixed funding. Meaning, if I don't reach my goal of $12,000 within the 30 day period, you get all your money back! Unfortunately, it also means the cards don't get made, so please back this project! Not only would this be a dream come true for me, but it will also assist in my future endeavors with the Messingwithcards brand!
We will be sending out a survey asking for all the necessary information, such shipping addresses, once the Kickstarter is funded :)
Art of Play will be shipping all the decks, so rest assured everything will be sent out correctly and in a timely manner.
If there are any questions or comments, please send me message and I will get back to you as soon as possible!
