WHAT IS PRIMETIME
Primetime is a small, street-level project-space located at 135 Huntington Street in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. The size and location of the space is embraced as a welcome limitation to the types of event that can occur there, which in the past have been talks, screenings, launches, residencies, and shows.
WHAT WE'RE RAISING
In the past, we've allowed the space to be handed over to our friends, on the condition that they take care of all financial responsibilities. Moving forward, we'd like to have that not be a part of the equation. The money we hope to raise will pay for that next phase of Primetime, which is to last the length of 2012, and is divided into three main parts:
- First are our monthly costs: Primetime pays $340 a month in rent, plus (between) 60 and 90 dollars for utilities. Roughly, it's a monthly $416.66, then, and for a full year exactly $5,000.
- For the long-term, we are looking to become a non-profit - ideally to be able to apply for additional grants moving forward. State and Federal filing fees to become a non-profit organization are in the one thousand dollar range.
- However, if we were to raise funds in excess of our hoped for amount of 6,000 dollars, we'd like to produce signage to identify the space, provide refreshments at events, hire a programmer for the website, fix the space up again, and so on.
WHAT WE GOT YOU
WHAT HAS HAPPENED
We started in November 2009 as a cooperative with 11 members, each responsible for filling up the programming for their month. We also shared responsibilities for renovating the space, which had been abandoned for a few years and was in need of a new ceiling, electricity, and wall repairs. The following February we opened with our first party. Since then, we've had a steady stream of shows and events with tons of old and new friends, including:
Erin Jane Nelson
Jacques Louis Vidal
