Hope Sings™, the only music organization that is harnessing the power of song and story to raise awareness of -- and funds for -- microfinance, is producing its first album.
Microloans change lives in big ways. Take Dona Blanca, a mother of 8 outside Guatemala City who was given a modest $100 loan from FINCA. With that loan, she bought an oven and started a business that now includes two bakeries and a wholesale business. Just $100 started a new life for her that allows her to finally afford to feed her children properly and send them to school.
Stories like Blanca’s are awe-inspiring - and song-inspiring. And that’s the idea behind Hope Sings™. We are inviting artists to write/record songs inspired by these true borrower success stories. We want to put the power of story back into popular music and inspire people to change the world. Since up to 85% of loans go to women, we are focusing on stories about women and songs from female musical artists.
We will produce a series of albums, each focusing on a different region (Asia, the Middle East, Africa, etc.) and offering a full range of musical styles from that region. We’re starting with the music and stories of Latin America. Profits go to our microfinance partners to fund more loans.
Right now you can experience the power of song and our mission by visiting www.hopesings.net and downloading our first single, La Esperanza Canta, by acclaimed Colombian singer-songwriter Marta Gomez. BMI, the performing rights giant, is endorsing us and helped us debut our first song last November in Las Vegas in conjunction with the Latin Grammy’s, but we need your help to take the next step.
Our first album will be a mix of original songs and of existing, uplifting songs we are licensing. It will have an emphasis on up-and-coming Latina music artists - another part of our mission is to give a hand-up to emerging female artists (a neat parallel to the hand-up, not the hand-out, of microfinance).
We have four top-notch Latin writers/singer-songwriters currently writing original songs for Hope Sings™ that are inspired by microfinance borrower success stories. We are asking for $9000 -which will net out to closer to $8000 with the 10% in fees we will pay on to Kickstart - because we estimate it will take $2000 to produce each original song:
Musicians – $800 ($200 x4)
Studio – $800 ($200/hr x 4 hours)
Producer - $400
Total - $2000
Our songs, through our microfinance partners, have the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of people and inspire them to donate to support loans. That's the Music Multiplier Effect. And you can help us achieve it.
Help us sing stories of change - to change the stories of lives. Kickstart our album!
