On June 11th, at the Funhouse Lounge in Portland, Or. I will be performing a hour of the material that I have spent these last few years polishing. I want to produce a comedy album from that material, titled "I Black Out."
It's more than just an album, for me at least. It is the embodiment of everything that I had to do to stay strong; it represents the defiance in the face of so much opposition. If you have every had something that was a little different, something that you loved & wished you could do all the time, something that brought out your passion like nothing else; then you know what it means to me to get this work produced.
I decided to call it "I Black Out", not for the drinking aspect, but for what happens when you actually "black out." When you black out, it doesn't matter what people say to you, you don't remember any of it & go about business as usual. I have adopted that to help me as I further my career, and now it's more of a motto.
When people would tell me to quit comedy, I would "Black Out" to their negativity, because I knew what I wanted. Their doubt doesn't change that. I've spent the majority of my adult life doing comedy. I've lost jobs, girlfriends, self esteem, my cat, and my large intestine, all to do comedy. Why? Because I love it, and now I'm ready to showcase my work.
The only thing left to take care of is acquiring the funds to produce it. That is where you all come in. Contributing to the completion of this album would not only be a huge help to me, but also a victory for anyone who has ever tried something despite what other thought.
Risks and challenges
The only issue is paying for the production and distribution. The equipment is ready, and I have a team of local friends and comedians ready to record and edit it all. They are constantly checking the equipment, and I can be found almost every night practicing somewhere in town. I will be going local for the production as well; to keep the cost down, and support them the way you all have supported me.
In terms of risks, I know I crazy things can happen out of nowhere. What I can tell you is that your money will be for one objective; to make this album a reality. If we reach our goal, I guarantee an album that both you & I can be very proud of.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
