Hey, we're going to be doing a weird new Sea Dracula thing at Gamestorm this year, and here's your chance to judiciously stack the scales of justice!
AND YOU DID IT!
Thanks everyone! Dancing to Poppet & Goomy at Gamestorm is gonna be AMAZING. But hey, if you wanna turn this healthy simmer up to a boil, this is what we've got in store -
If we reach $800 - SUCCESS!! (Stare Decisis - SET THE PRECEDENT TO 11!)
- 10% of all money will be donated to Animal Aid to cover veterinary bills of Portland-area low-income companion animals. http://www.animalaidpdx.org/home/vetAssistanceFund.php
- We will fund a live band for Sea Dracula at Fabricated Realities. http://www.fabricatedrealities.com/
If we reach $1,200 - SUCCESS!! (Amicus Curae - THIS COURT GOT FRIENDS!)
- Jake Richmond will create a business card template for every donor who has donated at least $15. It will include an animal drawing and business information based on the animal name and type you tell us. Really! Each backer gets their own custom card template!
- AND Vincent Baker will create a new animal-inspired Apocalypse World playbook and send it to everyone who has forked over at least $5. Introducing the Space Marine Mammal!
If we reach $11,000 (Dominium Eminens - INK FOR THE PUBLIC INTEREST!)
- Morgan will get a letter vampire tattoo, probably on his bicep. Jackson will get a tattoo of Morgan and Morgan's tattoo, probably on his neck.
The Money Goes To...
When we've done awesome big-audience craziness with Sea Dracula in the past, we find the best results come with live musical accompaniment. Specifically, we've arranged for the fine talents of Olympia and Portland best-friend duo Poppet and Goomy. We want to raise enough money to pay them to improvise super-compact dance jams at the event – that's just $400!
If you want a taste of Poppet's music (That's her on the right!) check this out: https://soundcloud.com/poppetsblackbirds And if you want a taste of Goomy's music (That's him in the middle!) try these on: http://goomy.us/
Ok, What Kind Of Dracula?
Sea Dracula, what's that? It's a ridiculous faux-competitive story game about animal lawyers that uses dance-based resolution. It's often played at gaming conventions in the Pacific Northwest, in living rooms in Olympia, and most recently at a classy high-profile nerd wedding! The game is named after the great animal lawyer Sea Dracula, natch. He's the giraffe in the video.
Lampooning What We Love!
This particular instance of Sea Dracula has new crazy rules, budded off one of Jackson's two simultaneous revised versions of the game! Instead of solving a crime, we're going to answer a Burning Question Of Public Interest in Sea Dracula: Judicial Inquest – How best to publish your first RPG!!! You can give us seed material to guide our Animal Lawyer players into being ridiculously silly and also tongue-in-cheek with this Burning Question. Feel free to slide your own name, a game company, or a designer that you love into the fiction using our handy reward tiers!
When, Where, How Much?
This event will be within Gamestorm 2013, on the evening of March 23rd at 5:30 at the Hilton Hotel in Vancouver, Washington (Oak Room). While this game of Sea Dracula will be free to all attendees of Gamestorm (a Vancouver, WA, gaming event), attendance to Gamestorm itself is $40 for Saturday (the whole thing is only $55 for the weekend at the door, you should check out the site). Sea Dracula is a part of the Indie Hurricane subsection of Gamestorm.
Hey, What Kind Of Shirt Do I Get?
We have lots of types of shirts. This is because we are nuts. Please pick your size (S,M,L,XL,2XL), and what color of shirt you'd like (Orange or Light Blue). You'll be sportin' the image above, emblazoned in black. If you don't specify, you get the default color (Light Grey), we'll be bring extra for sizing at Gamestorm.
I Want More Than One Thing!
You already picked a thing, but you are the kind of person who requires maximum justice? Cool!
- If you'd like the EP, add $5
- If you'd like a shirt, add $10
- A shirt w/ shipping, add $15
Make sure to tell us why you're throwing more money at us and what variables of shirt you want!
Who Are We?
May I humbly present your hosts,
•Morgan Stinson, seasoned Sea Dracula convention facilitator and chief sounding board for the new editions,
•Jackson Tegu, creator of the Advanced Sea Dracula 2nd Edition rules and their offshoots and a fine facilitator in his own right.
Risks and challenges
It's clear that we'll be operating on a strict deadline! After this kickstarter concludes, we'll only have a couple of weeks to
- create our sponsor placards and corporate sponsor signs.
- print the t-shirts.
- send out the Poppet and Goomy digital download EP.
Part of the charm of the Sponsor Banners is their low-fi D.I.Y. simplicity - we've got a local printer that we like working with, and then poster-board with acrylic paint will take us across the finish line.
Luckily, we've got many great t-shirt printers right in town here - we're planning on working with the same team that prepared the screens for the Fabricated Realities t-shirts in both 2011 and 2012, and are screening the shirts in-house. The screens will be made well before the end of the kickstarter, and when we have a final count, we'll knock out the shirts. We're confident in their & our abilities to deliver - but, if tragedy strikes, we've got alternatives. Here's the schedule for shirts:
-March 5th, hit send on online order of shirts (free 2 day shipping, y'all). We are doing a bulk order of many sizes so we will have extra shirts for other stuff.
-March 6th, receive screens from screen-maker.
-March 9th, Emily, our skilled screen-printer, does the first batch of shirts.
-March 16th, hit up Jo-Ann Fabrics to grab any extra shirts not accounted for in the bulk order. Emily, our skilled screen-printer, prints final batch of shirts.
-March 11th-20th, we ship shirts to those who won't make it to Gamestorm.
-March 22nd, we hand shirts to those present at Gamestorm.
-March 25th-29th, we ship shirts to anyone who thought they could be at Gamestorm but then couldn't.
Poppet and Goomy are already putting the finishing touches on their EP - and while they're known as perfectionists, they're also both renowned for their ability to deliver what they promise. The clips we've heard have revealed an electro-pop vision of the far future.
Since we're working with professional musicians (and have a second duo on call in case tragedy strikes), experienced game facilitators, have experience throwing similar events, and have good standing with the Indie Hurricane organizers, we've insulated ourselves from mishap during the actual play of Sea Dracula: Judicial Inquest. Of course, the players of the game might behave a little erratically - I think you'll agree, however, that's kind of the point. ;)
In short, we're confident that we can deliver these marvelous prizes in the span of time we've allotted. For great justice.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
