About this project
In Raid! Pirate's Plunder, The Brethren Of The Coast has fallen apart and every pirate is now fighting for their survival against both the Navy and other pirates. The seas are rough and the enemy is near. To survive, you must ally with the greatest and most infamous pirate of them all, Black Bart. He will reward you for delivering merchant ships to him, but you want more. If you can prove that you are more ruthless than your fellow pirates, then just maybe, you can form an alliance with Black Bart. But more importantly, you will have the satisfaction of winning Raid! Pirate's Plunder.
The game is designed for quick turns and light gameplay, but that doesn't mean it's easy! Just as pirates chase down and raid merchant ships, pirates can also steal from each other. Beware of the Navy when delivering a merchant ship. If caught, you'll be sent back to your home port and all of your equipment will be confiscated. Sail around shipwrecks and rocks and rack up as much gold as possible. Have more treasure at the end of the game and you win!
There are 24 hex tiles in the game that can be arranged in any configuration the players choose. 4 of these are specialty hex tiles: Naval Fortress, Black Bart's Lagoon, the Port, and the Tavern. The Naval Fortress is the starting and reset point for the Navy. Black Bart's Lagoon is where ships must be delivered to receive the reward. There are four Port tiles. These are the starting points for each pirate. When a pirate enters the Tavern, gossip spreads and the Navy hears. As soon as that pirate leaves the Tavern, the navy is immediately transported there, increasing the chance that the pirate will get caught.
After you've left your port, sail the Caribbean Seas avoiding rocks, shipwrecks, volcanic islands, sea serpents, giant squid, and sandbars. The open water hex tiles shown below are only a sample. Every hex tile is different!
Track down and capture merchant ships from 4 major traders of the late 17th century: Spain, Portugal, East India Trading Company, and Great Britain! Ships are valued differently, so the choice of which to covet is always a separate gamble.
As you capture and return merchant ships you can invest your gold in resource cards that will make you move more efficiently, avoid capture, or even influence the Navy's movement!
If you come across a fellow pirate transporting a captured merchant ship, don't be afraid to engage in a dice roll combat in order to raid your opponent and claim victory.

Digital Strategy Almanac - The Strategy Almanac includes many example board layouts with discussion on how each configuration will drive the style of play. It introduces unique features that can be applied to any board configuration which can alter defensive or offensive strategies. Key statistics on how to approach the many game situations are also included. The Almanac discusses each resource card and shows examples of how to get the most for you gold! The Strategy Almanac is perfect for those who want to learn the many subtle elements that Raid! Pirate's Plunder has to offer. Add on the Strategy Almanac to any reward level for only $3.
Combat Expansion Deck - The combat expansion deck adds a whole new layer of strategy and fun to Raid! Pirate's Plunder. When a player captures a merchant ship, he/she draws one of 4 weapons at random. Each weapon has a Range and Reload Time. Players can attack each other or the Navy from a distance. Once used, the weapon card is flipped over, and cannot be fired for the specified Reload Time. The added strategy creates many exciting new game scenarios. A comprehensive rule addendum will be included. Add on the Combat Expansion Deck to any reward level for only $7.
Additional Games - If you want additional games, add on $20 to any reward level for each additional game (limit 10 per pledge) and $25 for each additional game shipped internationally. All non-USA multiple-game rewards must be shipped to the same location.
Though we won't be using 17th century galleons to ship Raid! Pirate's Plunder, airplanes and trucks are still rather costly. We have done our best to create the least expensive shipping that we can afford to offer. Complimentary shipping will be offered within U.S. and Canada. Internationally, we simply cannot afford to offer free shipping; however, we can offer "subsidized" shipping. The exact details are given in each reward level, but for a single game we need $10 extra to ship the first game, and $5 to ship additional games anywhere outside of the US and Canada. You will notice that the international shipping price per game decreases with the higher reward levels. It is cheaper to bundle games than to ship them separately. In addition, the value of Raid! Pirate's Plunder is below many countries' Duty and VAT thresholds, meaning that you likely don't have to pay customs fees (see FAQ's for more info). Please check with your country's policies to be sure.
Why are we on Kickstarter? - We have funded the game 100% through the design and play testing phases. Now that we are getting near manufacturing (the expensive part), we need your help to fund the game the rest of the way. After the campaign ends, there is a 2 week lag until we receive the funds. Upon receiving funds we will go straight to the manufacturer, with whom we are already working. The only way this game will get made is if we reach our funding goal!
Why pledge now? - As we said previously, if you want the game, then we must get funded! To do that, we need your support. We have tried to make reward levels as low as possible. When the game is released (if we get funded), the MSRP will be $28. That price does not include shipping, but the Kickstarter reward price does (within USA and Canada). So, by pledging during our campaign rather than buying it afterwords, you are literally getting the lowest price we can offer the game at. More importantly, we know that you will enjoy playing Raid! Pirate's Plunder.
Risks and challenges
Although we are confident we will deliver a quality product according to schedule, there is always the possibility for unforeseen challenges. We have decided to manufacture the entire game in the United States so that we can keep a close eye on quality and minimize shipping time. We have set a mildly conservative delivery date of August 2014 to account for unforeseen challenges. Our chosen manufacturer is fully aware of Raid! Pirate's Plunder and it's necessary components. Additionally we have 2 other USA-based manufacturers set up as a safety net.
There is added risk with the stretch goals. Adding miniatures to the mix brings about its own potential issues, mainly time. Delivery could be delayed up to 3 weeks with the addition of miniatures. If funded, the Strategy Almanac will be printed locally and we will be doing all of the fulfillment ourselves which could take additional time; however, these will be shipped separately and will not affect the delivery of the game.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
